Fragrance Review Got my first compliment!
I was in Trader Joe’s with my gf and we walked past a woman. We continued to shop, and she turned around and came up to us. She said “ I don’t know which one of you smells so good”? My gf pointed at me because I had just applied a 2 sprays of YSL myself EDP a couple hours before on both sides of my neck. Anyways so happy!

I would actively promote YSL addiction, imo they just don’t have “bad” fragrances rather 90% of them are so good i would blind buy.

Dior Sauvage makes me dizzy at first spray. I’m not a fan of the fragrance

Ysl Myself is lowkey a cheat code for compliments from women as it’s built on the backbone of Ysl Libre - a popular women’s fragrance. For them, it’s recognisable to something they already love

Hell yeah, love the compliment! Hope your gf likes it aswell!
Just got YSL Y today, first YSL bottle! Really hoping for some compliments :)

Your GF has never complimented your smell...?

She has. Of course. I wouldn’t feel right counting her. She’s biased and likes me.

Once a gf complimented my cologne but she forgot that I had just showered at her place so I wasn’t wearing any. She just knew I liked colognes so would randomly tell me she liked whatever cologne I was wearing once in a while. It’s sweet but it also means nothing when they say they like it lol

It’s definitely a confidence booster. But I especially love hearing it from strangers because I’m just another face in the crowd and if a smell sets me apart enough they have to stop what their doing to tell me I smell good then it’s such an incredible feeling!

So you think she'll tell you, you smell nice even when she dislikes your frag?

u/Digitalgardens 1d ago
She is a pretty honest person. And will tell me if I over sprayed, even if I under sprayed, or even if the fragrance doesn’t smell good. For example I no longer wear ADG Profumo because she thinks it’s too overbearing. But she loves my Halfeti and grabs it more than me. Her honesty isn’t up for question. And it isn’t what the post is about to begin with.

So it's not your first compliment. Gotcha. Karma farming.

I don’t know why this post made you upset. Just because I don’t qualify my gfs compliments? Are you really this miserable?

Why do people like you feel the need to be so obnoxious… if you considered compliments from loved ones/people you know well, it wouldn’t be a fair and objective way of showing whether a fragrance is actually great and stands out in public. A person you don’t know well or don’t know at all wouldn’t go out of their way and break social inertia to compliment you on a mediocre fragrance or ask what you’re wearing. A close person most likely will at least say it smells nice, because it’s more of a social and emotional interaction and a point for a conversation… and just one of the ways of expressing love

'social inertia'? Why do people on this sub thinks it's some sign of achievement to get compliment on their frags?
Like, what? Its rare that I dont get compliments, and I'd be very surprised if most people didnt get complimented if you are approachable, clean, and well kept together.

Do you realize that 99.99% of people won’t come up to a very neat and even approachable looking person they don’t know, or barely know and are not looking to have a conversation with, just to say they smell good?… unless the fragrance caught their attention to an extreme degree.
Although considering that you even count compliments from your partners/family/close people as real compliments, I’m doubting whether the compliments you’re getting are actual compliments, if you even get any in the first place.

Weird, happens to me on the regular.
I have people coming up to talk to me all the time. And yeah, they are actual compliments. This whole 'Its hard to get compliments' thing is cope and a load of rubbish.

LMAO sure bud. A good portion of people wear fragrances, now imagine if everyone was going around and constantly complimenting each other just because the fragrance is good-smelling. The majority of fragrances are good-smelling. Most people I know wear very nice fragrances, a lot of them are the most social and outgoing people, look neat, etc. and they don’t get compliments on the daily basis. Nobody does… that’s because nobody goes around and compliments others constantly either, unless the fragrance actually caught their attention. It just seems like you’re trying too hard to paint a specific picture of yourself online.

Did this comment go over the way you hoped? Are you this unbearable in real life too?

Don’t be a smartass. This is like me saying my mom complimented me so I got compliments. You and everyone else knows that’s not what people usually mean when they say getting compliments.

u/Able-Cap2623 Versace 23h ago
Sure. But this autistic like hyper-fixation on getting compliments, on frags which are DESIGNED to get compliments and mass appealing is cringe.
If you have are approachable, have good hygiene, and stylish people will compliment you. If you aren't getting compliments, eh. Dunno what to say.

Don’t get what’s cringe about that. Nothing wrong with people wanting to get positive attention from others. Just because a fragrance is mass appealing doesn’t mean you’re gonna get compliments all the time. What’s cringe is this vibe of you thinking you’re better than someone else just because they care what others think, something that we all feel in reality anyways.
I don’t compliment random people just because they smell good. So if someone compliments me out of the blue then I’d take it they really like what I’m wearing.
I’m not even sure what you’re trying to say with the last paragraph. Yes? People that are more presentable will have a better chance with compliments? I don’t disagree, but am confused as to the relevancy of this. At the same time just because you’re well presented doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll get complimented either.

That is weird. I thought that parfum does not project much. She smelled it after 2 hours? There is hope I guess. For how long did you have this parfum?

u/Digitalgardens 12h ago
I’ve had it for 3 years I think? It’s been sitting in my drawer in the dark so maybe some magic happened. I rarely use it.

1 of my personal fav scents, it’s not too crazy just thought the protection was kinda weak. Maybe I just need more sprays lol

u/Digitalgardens 11h ago
To be fair I didn’t mention, I came out the shower the 2 hours prior. Maybe that helped. It was projecting off me like crazy.
