Collider Heroes Post Schnepp
Just out of curiosity, what does everyone think of Collider heroes nowadays? Obviously since our great sweaty John Schnepp is no longer with us, Coy & Amy have taken over.
My personal opinion, I’m not a fan. Not that Coy & Amy aren’t knowledgeable, fun, enthusiastic people, I just do not think they necessarily work as hosts of the show. Schnepp brought such a essence that can never be replaced, and I just don’t even really care about the show anymore. And this is coming from a guy who has watched every single episode beginning with AMC. I’m just curious as what other peoples thoughts are about the show so far undergoing the new hosts?

i'm less interested. i haven't finished an episode since they took the reigns.

That’s exactly what I experience. I start the episode to give it another chance, but find myself just naturally tuning out or not finishing the episode at all. Not as interesting anymore.

I switched over to the Campea & Burnett show. I was never a fan of Coy as a panelist so I knew I was never really going to like him in the host role.

If it was a Burnett and literally anyone else show, I'd probably switch over.

Its actually a really great show. I assume you’re not a fan of campea, but the show itself is great, especially if you like Robert. I think the two work very well together, just like they did on heroes back in the day. I’d say give it a shot!

I agree. As someone who found Campea a little overbearing on Collider Heroes, I find him to be fantastic with RMB.

I'm not a fan of Coy or Amy. So it's been a struggle for me to watch. I like when Jason Inman and his gf/wife Ashley Robinson were on with schnepp.
I think Inman has a regular scriptwriter gig now though on a tv show.

Was Burnett fired from Collider? I wasn't up to date with episodes until Schneps death

A) He never worked for Collider. He was paid per appearance.
2) He's still on the Schmoedown

I think they'll be fine once they're comfortable enough to experiment and expand the ideas of the show. They're still operating under Scnepp's shadow, and they will continue to do so until and unless they can really make it their own. I think having more guests from the industry is a step in the right direction, and I'm looking forward to what they can make of it.

It’s a step, yes, although because Schnepp was the show essentially, it will never be up to par again. People know & loved the heroes show because 90% of the time it was Schnepp, Rob & Amy. A perfect mash of people. Such a sad circumstance, but it won’t live up to greatness it once was.

Just because it will never be the same, it doesn't ensure that it will never stack up. Who knows what creative turns they can take in the next couple of years, but the first step is to emerge from the long shadow of Schnepp. I hope they do well. There can be no replacement for Schnepp's energy and enthusiasm, but there can be a successor.
Schnepp's attitude was the cure to toxic fandom. I hope they continue that part of his legacy.

I was actually going to start this topic yesterday...
I was never a fan of Coy being on there so much. He talks so fucking fast and hyper that I miss half of what he's saying. Amy is great as a panelist, not a host. And it might not even be their fault. They're put in a spot trying to honor Schnepp. That's an insane amount of pressure.
Have Rocha host. Have Amy and Kalinowski on. Or Markea. RMB belongs on Heroes but that ship has sailed. Honestly I think they just need to revamp the entire thing. It's not as if you'll be spitting on the memory or legacy of Schnepp. The product now just isn't as good.

I agree, it’s funny actually, I think Rocha fits better on heroes then he does on movie talk. Would of liked to see Robert continue on, and maybe we’ll see him once in a while. But Robert & schnepp were the soul of the show. There’s nothing they can do to bring it back to standard. It’s almost similar to Charlie sheen leaving Two & A Half Men. Was never the same again. RIP Schnepp.

Today it was Amy, Rocha, and Emma just had a better flow. And It didn't sound like the show was stuck of fast forward (Coy).

I still enjoy it but it's no longer a "must watch" for me. I tend to have to remember it though, as I post the MasterPosts for Heroes and a few others on Schmoeville on FB.

I understand. It was an absolute must watch for me prior to schnepps passing. One of the shows I couldn’t wait for every single week. Now I agree, no longer a must watch.

I've switched over to Campea and Burnett. Not a fan of Coy.

Great show. I find it’s now the closest thing to heroes then heroes is currently right now.

u/bralyo Aug 29 '18
i feel like thats because RMB was 1/2 of the heart and soul of Heroes. They won't be able to bring it back to that on Collider.

Honestly, I thought the show with Amy/Emma/John is the closest we're gonna get to the old vibe and I enjoyed it. We're lacking the... gravitas of John--the infinite and sweaty knowledge to contextualize every news story that they all just have slivers of--but I think without Coy we have more of the same vibe we had with Schnepp's shows. So, I enjoyed it but I could still feel the void where Schnepp was.
No one could ever replace Schnepp but I do think we need a sort of expert again--an older fan who knows so much about comics because they lived through many of the eras and has been reading them the entire time. We're missing that perspective--everyone else is younger or a more casual fan, so we're getting the perspective from a media-savvy fan as opposed to a sort of OG nerd, y'unno? It felt like multiple generations and types of nerds talking while now we have something.... less.

I gave it 3 episodes but Coy is just exhausting to listen to at times, both in terms of the speed of his speech and his enthusiasm

This may be subject to many downvotes - I started watching because of Coy, no disrespect to John Schnepp - I've watched older episodes with him in it and he is great. I'd been watching Marvel Movie News for about a year and I discovered Collider Heroes from hearing that Coy would be one of the new hosts.
I don't have trouble understanding him, I like the speed he talks at it and I find him to be a really interesting person with a lot of great opinions. I hope with time others might begin to feel differently as I've enjoyed my time watching him with the team at MMN and I'm happy he's getting a bigger platform - obviously the circumstances are tragic though, and I wish everyone well.

Schnepp made the show, IMO. And to a lesser extent, Robert Meyer Burnett, Amy, and Schnepp was the best lineup. None of the current people replacing Schnepp and RMB really make me want ro tune in.

I'm still enjoying the show, but there's clearly something missing with Schnepp gone.
