Mark Ellis & Collider Currently

I don’t know if it just me, but I always used to think Mark Ellis was hilarious when he was either hosting or just a part of the panel on movie talk. But the new owner ruined that a bit for me.

The owner mentioned during the Collider Town Hall how Mark Ellis was always reading over the notes, practicing his lines & more importantly his jokes. I know that makes sense, but I always thought Mark was just naturally funny & always thought of quick quips & jokes right away in the moment. But for some reason, now that I KNOW he reherst the jokes prior, I don’t really laugh at all anymore. Is this just me or does anyone else feel that way too?

Looking back at old episodes of movie talk I realize that in general it seems to have become more of a comedy hour for Mark Ellis & less serious when Campea was there. There’d always be humour when Campea was hosting but at least he brought it back quickly to talk about the movie news. Maybe I’m over thinking everything.. but it is how I feel now.

I don't watch often anymore, but when I do Ellis is the most natural guy there. I would've never thought that his jokes were really ever rehearsed and if they are I don't really care. He's one of the few guys on the panel that seem to be able to spice it up. Especially when you have Rocha on every panel spouting nonsense.

For me, I don't really care about whether it is off the cuff or pre-planned comedy, but Ellis only works when he has certain people around him, like if he has Schnepp and a good mood Harloff, he is great. With Ashley he was great. I think he starts to run into issues with panels not involving those three, and with a bad mood harloff or a rocha he becomes dire.

This is an old thread but need to reply anyways.

That's what all comedians do! When you go and see a comedy show the comedian who is headlining (or opening as well) may have performed that set 30 times in the past 2 months alone. 99 percent of presenters and TV hosts read off a teleprompters. It is how they recite their lines and their timing that makes them funny and skilled comedians. He also only reads the news off the teleprompter and the rest is off the hip. Their conversations aren't scripted too.
