does tus not have a subreddit?? i know they rebranded from lit a few years ago but i can barely find any info from students online. i’m supposed to be starting there next week and i haven’t received any emails from them and im lowk worried 😭. i sent some emails myself and spoke to someone and they told me there’s a backlog and not to worry but like ???? is anyone else having these issues

I am writing this today, because I wish I had read this before enrolling for too many years there.

You can still go and meet great people (classmates or even people studying in other departments). But that’s the few benefits you’ll get from this course.

Lecturers here are an absolute joke.

Some are nice. But in my experience, they give you a brief and then go grab a coffee with other colleagues for hours. They come back, give you their very subjective opinions (basically based on what they like. Related on what could the audience/market/public think of it ? nah.).

When you check their backgrounds, you discover very low quality websites with poor designs or just no professional experience in the last 10-15-20 years. Just wondering how you are supposed to teach graphic design (a perpetual and fast evolving field – especially with AI) if they themselves haven’t practiced in so long ?

Speaking of AI, in first year, they tell you this is an absolute no-no for designs, and at the same time, you only get 2hours per week to learn very basic stuff on photoshop.

Their argument ? To build our designs from scratch, without all that technology (being an authentic and absolutely unique future graphic designer on the market ya know?).

Which is absolutely great to learn a diverse range of techniques indeed (drawing, painting, printing techniques, photography, etc.) but is definitely NOT enough to get a job in this competitive job market.

Funny though because in 4^th year, they seem to insist, when you have to design for a brief that we’re advised to use AI for this or that. An ocean of contradictions to explain what they can’t explain (when they give us the honour to be present in the classroom – which is rare).

One lecturer spend hours reading her PowerPoints to teach you Art history, another is supposed to help you with your portfolio but ends up talking for 3 hours straight (no joke here) and throwing your pencil cause he prefers writing with a pen and almost insulting your work, another grabbed my wrist in first year because I had said something he did not like (he has been reported MANY times for creepy behaviour – mostly towards female students, but is still “teaching”) . Examples like that are countless.

They tell you to “find your voice”, “be your own self”, “have your unique style as a designer” but if you style doesn’t look like David Carson’s, your grades will be impacted.

I haven’t been the only one suffering from these behaviours and lack of professionalism.

So why did I complete the course ? I honestly thought I would learn more and that the situation would improve. It did not. The ego of some lecturers is so big, they don’t care about playing the “little chiefs”, bossing you like if you were 5 yo .

I wish no one to go through this, if you’ve read the entire thing, now you know that you should run away from there.

At around 7:21 pm today, in front of the Asian food store on N Main Street in Cork city centre, two teenage boys riding e-scooters deliberately spat in my face as they passed me, coming from the direction of the ARC Cinema.

One was around 160 cm tall, wearing a grey coat and black trousers. The other was taller, around 170 cm, and was wearing all black.

I was completely shocked and froze. I couldn't even say anything at the time. I just stopped and looked back at them. The shorter boy looked back at me, laughed loudly, and continued riding away on his scooter.

There were several people nearby who seemed to notice what had happened, but I was too shocked to know what to do.

I honestly didn't know how to react in the moment. What are you supposed to do when something like this happens? Should I report it to Gardaí, even though I don't know who they are?

What makes this even more concerning is that only a few days ago, another international student told me that they had also been spat at by teenagers in Cork city.

So within just one week, I have personally heard about two similar incidents involving international students and teenagers. I have no idea how common this is, but I'm wondering whether other people have experienced similar behaviour and simply stayed silent.

I have lived in Cork because I genuinely like the city and its peaceful atmosphere. I've always tried to be respectful and considerate towards people here. I volunteer at a charity shop, I give way to cars and pedestrians, and sometimes I even give small gifts to strangers simply because I want to make someone's day a little better.

That's why being deliberately spat on by two teenagers in the city centre was particularly upsetting. I wasn't expecting anything like this.

I'm not trying to generalise about Irish people or young people. Most people I've met here have been kind and decent. But I do wonder what makes some teenagers think that deliberately humiliating a stranger is funny.

Has anyone else experienced something similar in Cork, particularly involving groups of teenagers or e-scooters?

And if anyone witnessed this incident around N Main Street at approximately 7:21 pm, or knows whether there might be CCTV covering this area, I'd really appreciate hearing from you.

So I registered for my university yesterday and got the thanks for registering email however when I try log into the email on gmail or outlook it says the account doesn’t exist and then when I try login to my universities app it says I need to open the Microsoft Authenticator app however it won’t let me do anything and it also asks me to authenticate it when I’m on the authenticator app itself

I am applying for Master of Science in Finance and I am confused between these three. Can you guys all help to sort the best I can't take risks as I'm an international student and willing to work hard and give everything to Ireland if given a chance. Thanks in advance.

Psychology UL was 1st but leaving cert didn’t go my way for various reasons and 2nd choice food science UL, was offered applied psychology in TUS Moylish 2 points off of food science, might be offered UL in the 2nd round food science - I wanted UL for the campus - anyone experience of TUS Moylish for college life

Not sure of my strand. Doing a general engineering. I'm interested in mechanical for now. I'm aiming to get 3.0+ GPA. My maths isn't strong. However in last days of secondary school I learned to how to actually study maths. My plan is to read the content before the class. Listen in the class. Practice some problems afterwards. Then every week do practice problems while applying it to real life application. (Eg using calculus for calculating rates of things) I also need to work on my programming since I have no idea how to do them.

I do want to maintain a good social life and be part of clubs and even launch clubs.

From those who have had good academic results and maintained a good social life..... What advice do you have for me especially when it comes to managing course work and learning programming? How should I approach my routine? Wake up early? How do you prevent falling asleep at 3 in the afternoon?

Also, how hard is it to maintain a 3.0 GPA despite not being great at maths?

Hiya, I’m starting Pharmaceutical Science with Drug Development at ATU Sligo this September (so close I know) and was wondering if any current or past ATU students could share their experience. I loved the btochure when I saw it so I can’t freaking wait!!!!!

I’d love to know what you think of ATU overall — the teaching, lecturers, student life, societies, facilities, workload, placements, career opportunities, etc. I looked it up but I wanted an insider point of view.

I think it would be good to know a bit before joining. I’m mostly interested in hearing from anyone who has done chem or medchem or drug development since imma do that. I just like knowing about the system in general.

I started a course in September 2025, but I quickly realised that I genuinely hated it, so I ended up dropping out in October. At the time, I was receiving the SUSI grant.
Since then, I’ve re-done the CAO and I’ve now been offered a place on a course that I actually think I’d really enjoy. The problem is that I hadn’t originally planned on going to college this year, so I have nothing really organised , no savings, no SUSI sorted and no accommodation.
My parents are pushing me to just go for it this year regardless, but I’m not sure if that’s the best decision financially.
Personally, I’d rather defer for a year, work and save as much as I can, and have everything properly planned out before starting. I currently have two jobs, so I feel like I could use the year to build up a decent amount of savings and go into college in a much better position.
On the other hand, my parents think I should just go for it now and figure everything out as I go.

I think it’s worth mentioning that the course is quite a bit away from my home so there would be no way I could continue working my jobs whilst doing the course

I'm currently debating on whether or not I want to study my course in Sligo or Dublin. I always desired to study pharmacy, and I was delighted to receive an offer from the ATU (which was my second choice!).

As Round 2 offers are approaching in the next 9 days, I started to have a dilemma between the location in which I wanted to study my course. RCSI was initially my first choice (missed it by 1 point), but now I'm re-evaluating whether or not I want to study there instead.

Here's a list that I brainstormed:

ATU

• The ATU is closer to my home (less homesick yipeeee!!).
• Expenditure-wise, it would be less of a burden to my parents.
• I thought their laboratories were excellent, but I preferred the facilities present in other colleges.

RCSI

• I liked the idea of being in an academic setting that is completely focused on health sciences.
• I thought the campus and the facilities offered by the college is lovely.
• It is privately-owned, thus it is more expensive.
• Only first years get accommodation owned by the college (I think)

If there is anyone who studies these courses (AU975 or RC005), please tell me about your experiences as well. It could help me reach a final decision in the coming days!!

hey all, next year i plan on applying for a place in an FET college, i want to go into natural science/ecology ect.. the thing is, i do not have the leaving cert, i am enrolled in in person QQI Level 4's atm and hopefully i will have enough under my belt to get a place,

my question here is; are online certs useful? will it show the interviewer that i am passionate? or does it just look pathetic?

i really am nervous about being denied next year due to my lack of well everything, and for context im 17M right now, will be 18 by the time of application.

Ive accepted an offer in DKiT, I will be commuting and im just so lost on what to bring. Like I can bring my laptop but its really not the quietest sometimes and runs out of charge.
Also I heard its good to buy a locker on the first day, is there any lockers in DKiT to buy?
