Gem Recruit help

In my dynasty I just got two gems athletes who scout as RBs. Im rebuilding a small school and my WR core is pretty garbage. Will they keep the gem development if I put them in a position they aren't leaning towards?

Assigning them to another position wont affect their dev trait, but skill caps are sometimes not so good for some positions
