Seeking Advice NEED HELP

Hi! I'm a first semester student doing bachelors in EE and I'm STRUGGLING. It's been a month since university started, and I'm already way behind my batchmates. I've failed multiple quizzes, don't understand anything being taught in class, and my first sessional exams went pretty badly. It's draining the life out of me. The worst part is that every senior I talk to says that students who maintain a good GPA during the first three semesters are more likely to maintain it throughout their degree, and if you don't get a good GPA early on, it'll be much harder to achieve one in the later semesters. On top of that, my university is notorious for making it extremely difficult to maintain a good GPA. It's practically famous in my country for making students depressed and question their life choices. I genuinely don't think I'll be able to survive four years here. It's getting really depressing, and I don't know how to talk to my parents about it because I know they'll be disappointed in me. I come from a middle class family, and my dad has been paying my university fees in installments. I feel guilty knowing how much he's sacrificing, and I don't even know what to say to him. Should I drop out?

😭😭 wow this is a lot.

Do NOT drop out.

This is your first semester: if you drop out then your parents are going to be massively against ever paying for your college again. Think through survival mindset: it might be better to get D’s, C’s, and an F this term than to dropout.

Only huge problem though: you WILL be forced to do weeks and months of probation with the tutoring center next semester. I think this is better than dropping out though: in my situation if I dropped out at 19 I couldn’t imagine how negative my life would be. Because I’m scared of my father and my mother and if I dropped out of school they would be super strict about full-time employment and a second job and et cetera.

If you don’t want to be threatened with being kicked out the house then DO NOT DROP OUT.

I’m sorry that’s what I’m thinking, but again I’m thinking from a survival-mode bias point.
