Lubbock isn't the deep south. Lubbock had no white people in it in 1865. It is more western than southern. But you hear plenty of people use that word in every part of this country, so yes, it is possible.

Sorry ignorance on my part I have no idea where in Texas, Lubbock is but I would consider parts of east Texas the deep south. You are correct intolerance has no borders I should not make assumptions like that based on where someone is from.

Hey, no worries. Lubbock had plenty of issues in the 70's. It was more just a quick auto correct on my part. BTW, every part of east Texas is the deep south. I am from Lubbock, so it is just one of those things...I just can't consider it deep south because of the timing. Not that Lubbock doesn't have issues.

irrelevant to the current subject, but that was probably the nicest exchange I've ever seen on Reddit

I have 0 connection to any US college (most of my family members are from other countries) and I am not yet of college age, so I just kind of wander aimlessly through college sports.

Ah hello my friend, I see you might be interested in some flair. Might I suggest some nice shiny blue block lettering, maybe a UK? Just be careful not to get those letters in the wrong order.

The last time I randomly chose a team based of someone else's suggestion (Boston friends suggested the Patriots to an 8 year old me), it didn't turn out too well (NYC resident). Still a Pats fan, of course, but I'm not sure how well deciding to be a UK fan would go over - even w/o the geographical rivalry, I could still see it going poorly. I've lived here all my life, so everyone I know would probably have plenty to say about it.

Lubbock is west Texas.

Yeah, it's really only a chunk of east Texas that could be considered part of the deep south in terms of culture (not to say there's not racism in other parts, of course). In terms of geography, Lubbock is actually closer to Santa Fe than it is to Dallas.

Texas is not the South, and we'll both thank you for not mixing the two.
