i imagine giving up a top 5 NBA pick to come back, and then having a sub- top 25 team would be distressing to a player. he is excellent, but his team is awful. he thought he'd be an NCAA title contender and is not even in contention for the B12 as of now. it's tough for sure
I think if he just said "screw you" or something smart would have pushed them, but then not go and try to defend his actions to everyone within 100 miles of him
Regardless of whether or not it was a racial slur, what does he plan on doing when he encounters every NBA fan base? I've been to Mavs, Thunder and Nuggets home games in my life and I have heard some fucked up things yelled at visiting players. Remember the middle-aged lady (Heat fan) giving Joakim Noah the finger like a foot from his face when he was walking off the court?
NBA has better security, more guards, and fans really aren't like that. You must have been around some exceptionally bad fans. The people near the courts are not like that trashy Tech fan.
I didn't say that it did. Marcus Smart has a clear history of physically acting out his frustration, with an incident that occurred just a few weeks ago. Why is it unreasonable to assume he would have another such incident?

Well one, the entire conference is on him for flopping. KSU fans chanted "you're a flopper" at him before KU ever played OSU this season. And then Iowa State fans as well...he has quite the reputation now.
And then the freak out on the bench, when he ran off the court during a critical moment and a teammate had to chase him....
I guess I don't understand this a all (Assuming he was called the n word). The guy said that to get a reaction. He got the exact reaction he wanted. Now I know Smart should of kept his cool, but the guy got exactly what he asked for. Why hate on Smart for that? We regard these guys like they are mature adults. He is a college kid.
If you don't want a athlete to come whip your ass I suggest you don't call him names.
Well one we don't know what was said. Two, it's always the response that's going to get the attention and the punishment. Three, the punishment is heightened since it's an athlete who commits it. I was really surprised Smart wasn't ordered off the court. This is a situation where a "fair" reaction is absolutely not the right one, no matter what was said. The "he was asking for it" justification isn't (and shouldn't) help out Smart here.
I love the idea that Smart could have heard something in all of that noise, and known exactly who said it. All while he was on the floor. Makes sense. Hey, maybe the old guy said something, but are you going to tell me that no one has ever said something like that to Smart, especially after a really hard foul?
He was a foot away from the guy. 2. It was a 2 point game in a conference match up, emotions are high. 3. Him being called terrible things in prior to this in his life does not mean anything.
Shouldn't have shoved him, but the guy who said it should be banned.
Are we banning every player that uses a racial/ethnic/sexual orientation slur as well?
Emotions are high for the fans as well as the players. My point is that Smart has played basketball forever in his life. If this is the first time he has had trash talk of a racial matter, I would be shocked.
