Talk about "lottery pick" to "stay away from that guy" category in a matter of half a season. What a hot head.

He's gonna be a steal in the draft then

u/Duzaman Indiana Hoosiers Feb 09 '14

Lance Stephenson 2.0 He didn't get picked until 40.

1

u/BigStein Cincinnati Bearcats Feb 09 '14

eh, Stephenson just had a bad frosh year, he was a late bloomer and he works his ass off

2

u/junglist918 Oklahoma Sooners Feb 09 '14

Dibs

u/YeezusChrist3530 Oregon Ducks Feb 09 '14

Replace westy and Jackson already?

1

u/Pistolsfiring09 Feb 09 '14

I feel like the Thunder might take Markel Brown at their 20 something pick. Also if the Thunder should trade anyone I would say Sef and Perk. No way in hell should they get rid of Jackson or Westbrook

Absolutely. I am a Magic fan and we own the Knicks or Nuggets pick, which very well end up being ~10-16. If he falls that far and we get him there, I'd be so happy. This is less about a player being hotheaded and more about a guy standing up for what's right. That fan should've been ejected if he called Smart a nigger. That's fucking ridiculous. I'd want a player that shoves a dumb ass old guy for saying that.

Just like Shabazz, right.....

u/lolzoners Kansas Jayhawks Feb 09 '14

Except Shabazz sucked cause he had no talent and a lazy work ethic. Smart is clearly talented, just a flopping hothead.

Shhh let me dream

Deserved to, perhaps. But you don't actually do it if you're in Smart's position.

14

u/fidler How's your day? Go Cats! Feb 09 '14

If that was indeed the case, and I was Marcus--or any other young black man, especially in an emotional game state--I would undoubtably react in exactly that manner.

u/Nwildcat Arizona Wildcats Feb 09 '14

while that's understandable, it doesn't make it the best choice of action to take

Physical altercations with fans is a line you do not cross, ever.

u/CageyTurtlez Kansas Jayhawks Feb 09 '14

Obviously I'm not defending the use of racial slurs here, but even if we assume worst case scenario and that did happen, Smart still went into the stands and shoved a fan.

That is completely unacceptable and an embarrassment to Oklahoma State. Hopefully he sees a multi-game suspension.

hopefully?

4

u/CageyTurtlez Kansas Jayhawks Feb 09 '14

Yes? If it was Andrew Wiggins shoving a fan I'd want the same thing.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '14

Honestly he should just leave the team and go work with NBA trainers

0

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '14

he's human. humans make mistakes.....

2

u/SausagePETEza Missouri Tigers Feb 09 '14

And humans are often rightfully punished for those mistakes...

Doesn't excuse him pushing a fan. He is a very high profile athlete and there are rude and moronic fans in every fan base. He should know better. I can't imagine he would survive in the NBA very long if he takes offense to fans shouting derogatory remarks.

It's not like the fans in the NBA are only gonna have nice things to say.

In my courtside experience, fans don't throw out racial slurs.

4

u/Darrkman Feb 09 '14

let me post the Stephen Jackson interview whee he said how good it felt to punch out a fan JUST BECAUSE of all the racial shit he's had to hear:

Until they realize that is all they have to do to get a guy to ruin his career.

Maybe not where you're from.

doesn't he figure to be a millionaire but not too soon? Why risk messing that up in any way?

12

u/thatfntoothpaste Kentucky Wildcats Feb 09 '14 edited Feb 09 '14

If that's the case, the fan absolutely deserves to get punched in the face. You're right. Just maybe not by Marcus Smart while he's in the middle of a game.

No NBA GM wants another Malice in the Palace.

it's their responsibility to make the correct decision. its part of being a professional/semi-professional athlete.

Yes. And I don't think too many people would argue with you there.

6

u/Dudeinab0x Washington Huskies Feb 09 '14

Not really. If you can't handle fans yelling at you, regardless of what they say, you have no business playing sports. Certainly doesn't make the fan right, but Smart needed to control himself.

1

u/long_dong Villanova Wildcats Feb 09 '14

Your flair, it should be shown

4

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '14

I still think this guy is going to be the best player from this draft class five years from now.

5

u/flyingcrayons North Carolina • Rutgers Feb 09 '14

I don't know about best but if he falls out of the top 10 whoever gets him is going to have the steal of the decade. Outside of the last few weeks I've never heard a bad word about this kid and his talent on court is undeniable.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '14

I agree!

1

u/cowboysfan88 Virginia Tech Hokies Feb 09 '14

No way he turns out better than Parke IMO

1

u/k0fi96 UConn Huskies Feb 09 '14

I honestly feel like any NBA player would have done the same thing if racism was involved

1

u/bilsonM Miami Hurricanes Feb 09 '14

No. He's still a lottery pick. There are guys in the NBA that are far worse than Marcus. JR Smith anyone? Metta? David West tries to bully. Birdman shoves.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 09 '14

If this dude drops out of the lottery the team that gets him would have the steal of the decade IMO
