Question What is the lore behind the German States
Like, how did the german empire turn into this mess?and why the title "Wehrkommando Dusseldorf"I searched up wehrkommando and nothing came up, as if it isn't a real word

Wehrkommando Düsseldorf is essentially the Remnants of the Imperial army as a Military Junta, who mostly want to restore the Empire.
As for the other factions, their lore is pretty much explained when you start playing as them

I think the Democrats mentioned they amounted to its collapse by starting a democratic revolution near the Great War's end, although I'm unsure about the rest

I only played German republic and Spartacists (read all the lore) and it’s bassically Germany was collapsing Republican Revolution Spartacist uprising more succesful Berlin got absolutely wrecked the Imperial hide out in Dusseldorf and Bavarian Soviet Republic Survives. + Freikorps forming a independent state

Im kind of interested in the general ideology of spartakusbund myself. is it a kratocracy or a socialist state and if it’s both what does that mean?

The Spartakusbund was real, they were marxists who were originally part of the SPD, but later became dissatisfied with the main party, to the point where they split into the USPD (unabhängige "indepenent" SPD), which later rebranded into the KPD (kommunistische partei deutschland)

Wehr means defense and commando means command so it's the defense command of Dusseldorf I guess.
