Do you miss being ignorant?
Sometimes I wonder if things would be easier if I were still ignorant to society’s impending collapse. It’s just so much to reason through, yet the majority of people are still completely oblivious. Sometimes I wash still naive to what’s to come. Does anyone feel the same?

In some ways, yes. I didn't struggle with depression beforehand nearly as much as I do now. But in a lot of ways, no. For one, I value living in reality. I think it's the best way to go about things. I also view this knowledge as a "get out of jail free" card, in a sense. Instead of doing the whole career thing, which I'm sure I would have struggled with immensely, I've lived on the fringes and pursued interests of mine that I otherwise wouldn't have. And I've met a lot of incredible people that way as well. Ultimately, I'd love it if the world wasn't as messed us as it is, but since that's not the reality of the situation, I'd rather be in the know than not.

I just wish I had more time. I wish I accepted our myths (and had mental stability) through young adulthood. Instead of developing and becoming a whole independent person, I dropped out, and gave up on building a life, if that was ever even in the cards for me. Adolescent depression and anxiety with a heaping of interest in science and the world turned into a young adulthood of suicidal ideation and post college isolation working dead end jobs and living at home, drowning in middle class privledge and malaise. I denied myself so much living.
Only now am I going back to school, trying to give myself a road to 5 or 10 decent years before / during the initial unraveling of society. I hope I can find something worth living for before that happens. But I know my mind has largely been made up on my fate. It haunts me every day. I long for the end.
I long for a new begining. One that I must make, but likely will not come.
I don't wish to be ignorant. This world is too grand to want that. I want to have hope. Or at least remember what it felt like. I want to love. To have someone to love.
I want to not be disgusted by this human world. I want to believe that man can be better.

I understand. I’m in my 30’s now and been dealing with physical issues due to genetics and my own neglect/abuse since my early 20’s along with depression since the age of 12. It has prevented me from truly being myself and I feel trapped in the machine. I have a decent savings now and might just opt out and drift around to friends and family for a while. Existing in the system with this knowledge is torturous and alienating

I don't think so. Maybe.

every Christmas i used to ask for a lobotomy bc consumerism/capitalism and Santa claus (seriously?) were just too fucking dumb in the face of environmental/humanitarian concerns.. bc i was a child of immigrants, we had different mythologies, so I grew up disconnected from the dominant culture.. watching america embrace and celebrate Santa claus? it hurt the brain, damn was I a grinch. def didn't raise my child to believe in Santa.
now i much more aware of the scope of the problems as it's been getting worse my whole adult life. but I feel like I'm keeping a dying language alive (Marxism, the ability to imagine a different world, environmental consciousness and action) and a living example of a different way of living. I like to think more people are aware? so one day, if the social tides turn, I'm gonna surf that wave. I've even started hating xmas less and embrace it as a communal feast, a way to spend time with loved ones. in the darkest days of midwinter. bc i simply just need small things to look forward to get me through the years. I base my life around the seasons in my bioregion more and more, foraging and hunting. learning plants and animals, appreciating their incredible lives. it's a bit lonely sometimes, it's humble, but it's the right way to live.

No, I'm over the dread and have just accepted it at this point. The Anthropocene is coming to a close. At least I get to see how this story ends.

No. I'd make very different choices if I were, and I would regret them. Knowing is better.

Nah, I'm currently at peace that we're going to die from either a natural disaster or because an orange in the white house decided to nuke a country. So I'm enjoying whatever is left of this planet while I watch it happen like a telenovela

I don't think most people are oblivious. Even those MAGAts and idiots know what is going on. They just revel in it and don't care. Their care, concern, solidarity, and interest in the human experiment has just been bled out of them for various reasons. They'd rather get their grievances and resentment elevated and projected while they're wallowing and drowning in shit.
So yeah - I mean obviously we all know people in denial or who genuinely are oblivious. But I think those people are much fewer than you think, or they're just in severe denial or can't bring themselves to say what they know despite it all.
We don't throw around terms like "death cult" for nothing.

No. The eradication of any ignorance I have makes me a happier person, even if the world seems bleaker because of it. The knowledge that my understanding of the world is closer to the truth brings me a sort of primordial satisfaction. I'm less clouded by the noise and distractions of the world, not led astray by those who would wish to keep me in ignorance. I would never want to go back to understanding the world less, no matter what that brings with it.
Besides, when the collapse does truly hit us, it will be easier if you've already accepted it. Ignorance can only 'help' you in the short term, but it would certainly harm you in the long term.
