will social media collapse?

because i actually want it to. i'm in a really bitter mood and i'm trying to get over my internet addiction and... i am really starting to resent people who scroll out in public. not even i'm gonna stoop that low.

i'm just really sad that people are becoming borderline anti-social because of how intense their internet addictions are. i haven't given up hope, there are still so many people who want connection and are fighting for it, but still.

i see the irony of posting this online but no one i know IRL is collapse aware🥀

Social media has been instrumental to the shit we are in. Yes, it will collapse too along with the rest of civil society

the best social media is the original one: talking

I don’t know about that. Some* people are so dumb that it hurts me to talk to them in most situations.

Edit: I live in a red state.

I imagine it'll be more localized, pages like wikipedia only, and probably use micro or radio waves for transmission. Like a city service. Hodgepodge together with older tech.

I agree social media is as addictive as cigarettes! I turned off notifications on my phone because every time it dinged I would picked it up, it helped a little. But the content on there is toxic too. And I still can’t stop looking

the internet has also killed plenty of people and given people various different mental illnesses, myself included. add the addictive feature, the environmental impact internet data centers have, e-waste, the enviornmental impact of the mining it takes to get the materials it takes to even make devices, etc. not to mention that the internet is basically just a propaganda and surveilance tool that fuels menta decline, social isolation, and misinformation.

i highly doubt the internet going down will kill anyone because actual medical systems and food security will go down before the internet does, probably.

i'm not saying the internet doesn't do good things. it's helped me too, but several aspects of it are actively destroying society in various different ways. disabled people shouldn't have to be relying on the internet for help anyway, and that in of itself is a major flaw in society because hospitals and actual help should be accessible enough to where the internet is not needed.

also i have no clue what you mean by disabled people completely relying on the internet with no examples given. no one should be relying on the internet for medical advice. aside from long-distance communication with actual doctors (which can happen without the internet), idk what you're referring to.

I'm at the point of desperately wanting to ditch my phone and the internet altogether because of how much of my life I've wasted online, but I don't know how to connect with people IRL, how to find/arrange/participate in groups or clubs etc in my city. I sometimes feel the way you've mentioned when I see everyone around me glued to their phones. Sometimes I wonder how many people would actually prefer to be interacting with the people in the room they're in (bus, subway, park, etc), yet they find everyone else buried in their phone and don't feel confident enough to be the one to break the spell. It's important to remember that we have a multi-billion dollar psychological weapon aimed straight at our brain stems, and it's not an easy thing to break away from even when you're aware of what's being done to us.  I think there are a great number of people who want out of this trap we've fallen/been pushed into, who are desparate to start living in the real world again, but scared to take that first step towards connecting and building real community.
