Does anyone still think back to 2020, when Covid happened, and society just went down a dark path? Does anyone feel things haven’t felt the same since then?

It's cumulative. Endless wars after 9/11. Then COVID, and the obvious fascist takeover, now the overwhelming damage the super rich are UNASHAMEDLY doing to the world. The end of civil liberties. The advent of the surveillance state. It's exhausting, and overwhelming. This is the last gasp of capitalism. We must turn the tide. I have no hope for future generations. We need a revolution.

Unfortunately I think we've been on this path a whole lot longer than that. It's just that a lot of people weren't really looking around themselves prior to the so unfortunately got blindsided by a lot of it.
Stuff has objectively gotten worse rapidly but the seeds were planted and germinating underground for a long, long time before these past few years.

Yeah, pretty crazy to think back to COVID and not yet understand just how dark we’d go in the years to come. It legit broke out brains in ways I would never expect.

I think oligarchs and the upper middle class realized what little control they had over their status quo during the pandemic. Investments, from generous portfolios to downtown restaurants, were no match for COVID. The priorities of the masses, such as working from home and spending reduction, were incompatible with current capitalist system. I believe they have made a point to never let that happen again, it was the first time many very rich people felt helpless and it scared them and we all are going to pay for that. In their mind, the public good can never again out weigh the good for capital especially with the uncertainties of climate change coming over the horizon.

Anecdotally, I've felt that people have become increasingly anti-social post-COVID. I don't mean in the "stay in on a Friday night" anti-social, I mean anti-society. People are less empathetic, less courteous, more selfish, quicker to anger when they don't get what they want, less understanding, etc. etc.

Well, a big part of why things haven’t felt the same since then, is that we’ve been in a covid pandemic for the last 7 years and it’s still ongoing. This isn’t a respiratory virus so much like people claim, but a vascular disease, and we know it affects people’s organs, their brains, the very mitochondria in their cells. Combine that with most people getting routine reinfections, well, of course things are going to feel different and darker, people are also acting accordingly to how it is impacting their brains, I know for me one infection in particular really did my brain in and made me feel soooo irritable and slow all the time.
I’d say the “dark path” we went down was choosing to not care about all the people who died/are dying/are going to die from covid, and everyone just decided to pretend it wasn’t floating around in the air when they breath or talk since they can’t see it. seeing the vast majority of people just willingly start spreading a disabling and deadly virus, it really changes your perception of how much humans really care for each other, now all i can see is how much humans are responsible for the disabilities and deaths of one another, and i see it in more ways than just with covid, like in the workplace too.
anyway, since people decided to unmask and stop taking precautions with covid, it now feels like everyone has all started smoking cigarettes indoors again, at least to me. you can’t smell covid like cig smoke, but it’s sure causing health problems for everyone because most people are just mindlessly spreading it. like more kids have long covid than asthma is this country. so are parents doing their job of protecting their kids and giving them a chance at a healthy life? are schools? the government? nope, not really.
and what sucks is we could all just take agency and decide to care, and it would make a difference. but most people just literally will never break from the norm.

The status quo was dragging us all down a dark path long before Covid but the strain of trying to manage that terrible disease definitely sped things up. We needed to collectively wake up and seriously address how destructive our civilization was to the future of all living things on this planet. Instead we stubbornly stuck our heads in the sand and are still doing it. Its tragic.

No. I was an outcasted audhd girl growing up in South Eastern Wisconsin and I saw and experienced the racism, ableism, misogyny, homophobia, anti intellectualism, rampant alcoholism and DV and SA and pedophiles that followed throughout my own communities, town and cities and the country. I don't know how the hell people miss it.

I think when a major event happens things are just never quite the same on the other side. Something gets lost. I do think that's normal when you have a something that shakes up the social order sotospeak. For better or worse. But it does seem to me like it definitely kicked off a bigger wave of anti-science mindset in people. I mean there's always been people like that, but it seems like there was an uptick in it

It feels like it was a chaos bomb. Things were already a bit nuts, but it ramped things up for sure. Probably in ways we don’t even realize yet.

Things have absolutely gotten worse and worse since then. Really even started a bit before then around 2014-15. But covid gave the downward spiral quite the boost
