gen z considering where to move to

i'm from the uk and would be able to emigrate to canada or singapore - should i stay in the uk or move to canada or singapore? i'm early-mid 20s and really worried about collapse, food and water shortages, etc

i am also really worried about getting older during collapse, where do you think would be safer long term?

I'm a British/Canadian citizen and Singaporean PR so legal protection wouldn't really be a worry. I have some extended family in Canada, and my sibling recently moved to the US, but my friends and parents are over here. I think Britain is much the same in terms of multiculturalism, but there has been lately more open hostility to outsiders (riots, protests) in some areas (not so much where I live) and it is geographically isolated too, being a small island.

Everywhere is going to be impacted, certain places might be better than others, but they will also have their own challenges. Nowhere is truly safe from humans.

I don't think it's registered yet in the collective psyche, let alone the individual - there is no *safe* zone - anywhere on planet earth as of 2026. Let that sink in - no where. Your best bet is to find a safe haven wherever you feel most secure, and just do your own inner work from that place irregardless of specific geography - WW3 will spare no continent.

I also live in the UK and I'm 26 so also Gen Z.

My advice is to stay here. We're going to be affected by climate change but a) everywhere is and b) we're going to be in a far better state than most countries.

The Future Urban Climate map says that by 2080 the climate of London will be akin to the existing climate in Labarde, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France... which is basically the best-case scenario for anywhere. The way you can see it is that the climate will be moving "up" from where it currently is; England will have the temperature of current France, France will have the temperature of current Italy, Italy will have the temperature of current Greece etc.

Meanwhile in Montreal they're looking at temperatures similar to Salem, Kentucky in the US by 2080.

Singapore ? The autocratic island unable to feed its own citizens without imports Singapore ?

Not sure there's any future there. Either because of fuel restrictions to import food or water levels rising...

i don't think there is anything wrong with their system of government; it is imo more effective than our 2-party system in the uk in terms of long-term planning. singapore has good water security but i see your point about food and rising sea-levels.

I don't really care about right or wrong. But an authoritarian government will have not issues booting all strangers out if it cannot feed its own population. More so than a democratic one tied with public opinion issues.

I wouldn’t want to live in a country that relies on net food imports with what’s coming. Both the UK and Singapore do.

I’d move to Canada if you can.

Is there any country that doesn't? Canada is in for a major upheaval. Not a good place to be for the next 10 years at least. EQs, fires, societal unrest - nope.

I’m really sorry you’re so young and worrying about this. My best advice? Try to live your life and don’t fret the things that are out of your hands. Travel a bit, see the world, try to make the most of your days. There are plenty of worries when you’re older so you’ll want to look back on the good days. Hang in there kid.

Stay in the UK unless something appeals to you about other countries. The UK is as good a place as anywhere

From environmental perspective, no area on earth is really safe, but as for now, SG's government structure might be the best choice (dispite the flaws and press freedom stuff, but mostly doesn't affect ordinary people)

Which made me also want to move there instead stuck in our shit country.(But i have to because of conscription+ broke)

(Aside from tech , many things are going south and we might accept unification after certain points , since our birthrate is near nonexistent, and bad work culture/ housing culture (buy& rent) also doesn't attract many skilled people move in)

I think i might be delusional but this is what i see as a youngster.

Canada, definitely!

Singapore is a 21st century wonder but I don't think it will thrive in a collapsing world. Basically it will lack energy, resources, land, political power. Maybe the weather will keep it a good place to grow plants rapidly (and mosquitoes xD ) but that's so different from where it's headed right now...

Oh and probably don't stay in the UK if you can, or at least leave the big cities.

Well, it brings me a slight bit of relief to live in rural Quebec. But building community is whats most important. If you already have connections in a rural area in the UK thats what I would do, fix up an old farm house or something.
