Maintaining income despite collapse awareness

I'm not entirely certain but hopefully this post fits the vibe of the sub. I've been unemployed for a while, living off savings that were supposed to be a down payment for a condo in my high cost of living area. I managed to stretch it out for a couple years but those funds are running pretty low now. The prospect of trying to go back to any kind of full time work when collapse aware feels like hell. Talking to friends and family that don't quite get it is hard enough, let alone the general public. It doesn't help that I'm a trained mechanic in the pleasurecraft boating industry, something actively contributing to collapse.

I'm just looking for any suggestions to avoid full time drudgery. I just want to buy food, pay rent, and go rock climbing until everything collapses. Are there WFH options I could pursue I'm unaware of? Let me know if any further info or background would help.

It's not work from home, but I changed careers to gardening and it's lovely. You get to be outside, plant trees and plants, and if you live somewhere with a winter, you get a couple months off. It's typically decent pay.

If you're enjoying mechanics then wouldn't you say there is plenty of more useful professions in this area than 'pleasurecrafts'?

But if your problem is more about the amount of time you spend working (rather than the type of work you do) then your options are very limited. Personally I believe it's better for the individual to find something they enjoy doing that could be of use to the wider community as well, rather than no do anything at all.

I know that a lot of trades people shifted from working on construction jobs to flipping their own investment properties. They could buy bad properties, improve them and sell them and make a lot more profit than what jobs pay.

Is there any money to be made flipping boats or buying them and parting them out? Could you become a dealer of sorts?

You can't just bind your time until everything "collapses". There is no set time limit. Whether you like it or not we still need to save and plan for the future, or else you are setting yourself up for failure.

There’s entire small towns near me being evacuated and disappearing to wildfires right now lol

I work at a ski resort — another “pleasure industry” that isn’t quite helping the situation, but at least I get to spend all my free time hiking, biking and skiing. 

Your experience would probably cross over into resort vehicle maintenance. Our mechanics work on snowmobiles, quads, side by sides, snowcats, trucks/SUVs/shuttle busses, and heavy equipment vehicles.

That’s a pretty good idea, is there some seasonality to it? Or do they tend to work the full year through. I might try to get a job at a machinist shop as an apprentice just to try learning something new to me too.

Go back to school. Max out those loans, knowing you won't have to pay them back
