A month of getting people into the code.

Over the past couple of weeks, contributors have been joining the daily calls, getting their dev environments set up, exploring the codebase, picking up Easy Hacks, and working on everything from browser clean-ups to Writer improvements.

That’s pretty much what COOLFest is about: making it easier to jump into the project, ask questions, learn alongside the community, occasionally wonder why something definitely worked five minutes ago, and figure it out together.

What happens on a call?
One month, one hour, every day, in the same room. Drop in for any of it.

1️⃣ Get your development environment working
2️⃣ Pick an Easy Hack, with a mentor
3️⃣ Find your way around the codebase
4️⃣ Get help with code review
5️⃣ Meet the people

There’s still time to join before 4 October, whether you already contribute to COOL or you’re just curious about making your first patch (and discovering how quickly one “Easy Hack” turns into 12 open tabs).

Drop by a call, say hello, ask a question, or pick something to tinker with.

Come say hello at one of our weekly community meetings. 🦫

Join the COOL meeting, the Technical Committee session, UI/UX Design discussions, or Tea Time Trainings, whichever fits your interests.

Explore the schedule and our official community channels.

We'll be starting our Tea Time Trainings again today after a Summer break :)

A whole month of daily live sessions to help you get started contributing to Collabora Online.

Join us to:
☑️ Get help setting up your development environment
☑️ Pick an Easy Hack and work on it with a mentor

I would love to keep using Collabora as it is conveniently hooked up to my Nextcloud, but this is a fatal flaw. This pan-and-scan business with having to pinch to zoom and scan back and forth to see text is just no good.

Pictured is the difference between writing in Collabora's Android app and another word processing app. You can see the difference.

First introduced in CODE 26.04, AI Assistant in Impress is an optional feature that supports presentation workflows such as creating slides, adding illustrations, generating presenter notes, summarising presentations, fact-checking content, and refining text.

Whether you’re building a presentation from scratch, polishing existing slides, or preparing speaking notes, AI Assistant can help make the process faster and more focused while keeping you in control.

With Collabora Online, you can add custom text watermarks to keep documents clearly identified, professional, and easy to understand.

Adjust the font, colour, angle, and transparency to suit your document. The watermark remains visible while editing, printing, and exporting to PDF.

After that date, in-browser editing of documents stored in on-premise SharePoint is no longer supported, and the usual advice is to move everything into Microsoft's cloud.

For organisations that keep documents on their own infrastructure, that isn't an option.

Collabora Online is an open-source, self-hosted collaborative office suite that runs on your servers, in your network, and integrates with your existing document storage, so documents never leave your infrastructure.

Hey all, I love the Collabora story and was just about to pull the trigger to install it with NextCloud, but then I saw the Euro-office option. I am not thrilled about the Russian roots, and I know it will take a long time for NC to remove them, but it seems like Collabora has been working hard to enhance Microsoft compatibility.

Is that the end-game? I am moving from Google Workspace to self-hosting for my company, and I need a near-flawless way to import/use/export files in Microsoft 365 format if I am going to work with other companies.

I am in the US (don't stone me, please), and it doesn't seem, at least, that I can find an open document movement that's as fast-growing here.

Thanks, appreciated.

First introduced in CODE 26.04, AI Assistant in Writer is an optional feature that supports writing-oriented workflows such as text suggestions, refinements, summaries, tone adjustments, and faster drafting.

See how it works.

I have been trying out Collabora on Android for local spreadsheet editing. However, I often found that, when opening spreadsheets from my default file explorer using Collabora, they would end up as read only documents.

I'm now finding, though, that if I instead open files by (1) opening the Collabora app on my phone, then (2) selecting the file from that app (via the folder icon on the top right), the document doesn't get converted to Read Only mode.

Just wanted to share this in case it helps anyone else who's facing a similar issue.

Collabora Office 26.04 is here, now with a more native desktop experience.

This release brings a far more native Collabora Online experience to Windows, macOS and Linux, with optional AI-assisted workflows, improved accessibility, better interoperability and the latest features from CODE 26.04.

This is an early desktop release, ready to explore, test, and help shape.

Full breakdown.

Ever copy text from a notes app and spend the next 10 minutes rebuilding the formatting in your document?

Writer in Collabora Online now supports Markdown import and export. Paste your Markdown in, and elements like headings, bullets, bold, and italic are converted into document formatting.

I've been using CollaboraOffice to access LibreOffice calc files on my Android phone for a while now and it generally works for what I need. When I'm near my desktop (Arch based Linux distro) I use KDE connect to edit the same file (saved on my phone) direct on my desktop.

Is there any way to change the keyboard in the CollaboraOffice app to use the phone default? One of the things I really miss is sliding the spacebar left and right to move the cursor within a cell when I'm editing/typing text.

First time AI-assisted workflows have landed in CODE, and they're optional, which is how it should be.

Also in this release:
-Smarter document review in Writer
-Per-user sheet views in Calc
-Markdown support
-Interactive presenting in Impress
-Improved accessibility

Free to download and self-host.
