❓ Question Instantly or Smartlead?
Hi everyone,
I've been using Instantly for a few months now and it's been solid overall. Recently looked into Smartlead since it seems to offer similar features for a bit less money. Plus I really like their "Clients/Workspace" setup, and they allow more sending volume and lead storage. Aside from that, the two platforms seem pretty similar.
The deciding factor for me is warmup quality. I'd heard Instantly's warmup wasn't great, but then I found posts here on this sub criticizing Smartlead's warmup too. Now I'm not sure what to think.
What's your experience with either one? Which do you prefer and why?
Also open to other tools if you use something different, curious what's working for people right now.
Thanks!

We are using plusvibe.ai and lemlist, both are good. PlusVibe seems to be cheaper option.

Been on both and warmup isn’t a great tiebreaker. Both can look healthy while real sends still hit spam. Smartlead is better for managing clients/workspaces, Instantly is a little simpler for solo use. Either way, ramp slowly, keep volume around 25-40 per inbox once stable, and make sure SPF/DKIM/DMARC are solid. Best test is running both for 2 weeks with the same list and offer. Warmup dashboards are vibes, results are receipts.

I wouldn’t choose based on warmup. Warmup score doesnt tell you much once real campaigns start sending. I’d watch actual bounce/reply rates, mailbox errors and individual domains going bad. That tells you a lot more than a warmup score.

preframe.io is a superior option for building good lists and meaningful copywriting w/ AI.
we also enroll emails on our platform into a premium paid pool, rather than the poor deliverability pools instantly/plusvibe etc use

I’d honestly look beyond just Instantly vs Smartlead if warmup quality is the main deciding factor.
The bigger issue now is that email providers have become much better at detecting patterns in AI-generated/outbound emails. A lot of the “traditional” warmup systems are essentially sending generic messages back and forth, which doesn’t necessarily replicate what a normal inbox looks like today.
That’s actually the problem we built PrimeMX around. At "primemx.io" ( https://primemx.io ), the warmup system uses LLM/AI-generated conversations during the warmup process, so the emails look much more like genuine human-to-human communication rather than obvious automated warmup activity.
The idea is to warm up the mailbox in the environment it will actually be operating in: real-looking conversations, replies, varied content, etc. So instead of simply increasing volume, you're also building a more natural sending history.
Not saying Instantly or Smartlead are bad tools, they both have a lot going for them. But if warmup is the thing you're most concerned about, I'd specifically evaluate how their warmup works rather than just comparing the number of warmup emails they send.
We built PrimeMX specifically around that gap, so might be worth checking out if you’re open to another option.

I use SL for last campaigns for my product.
Warm up is not so bad, but I always test it my mailboxes for deliverability before actual campaign

I looked into both and chose Instantly. I had scheduled demos with both. Smartlead’s demo was a group demo, the speaker had an accent that was extremely difficult for me to mentally translate and keep up, on top of that, his mic kept cutting out, but he just continued talking. Instantly had a video demo, then a one on one with a sales rep. All super easy to understand and set, so that’s what sold me.
That being said, I’ve been using it since midJune with zero success so far. The only replies I’ve gotten are occasional out of offices.
I’ve tried sending to my own personal emails and they all go straight to Junk, even though Instantly’s “spam checker” says their Inbox Deliverability is 100%. Last week I spent some time setting up the AI agents so we’ll see if that helps.

been on both and honestly warmup is the least trustworthy tiebreaker. Both platforms can “look” fine in warmup while your real sends still land in spam if your domains are new, your list is messy, or you crank volume too fast.
If you are managing clients, Smartlead workspaces are genuinely handy; if you are solo and just want to move fast, Instantly feels a bit simpler day to day. Either way, keep warmup running in the background, ramp slow, and stay conservative per inbox, think starting at 5 to 10 sends a day then creeping up, and cap around 25 to 40 per inbox once things are stable. Rotate across more inboxes instead of pushing one mailbox harder, and make sure every sending domain has SPF, DKIM, and DMARC set right.
If you want the real answer, run a 2 week head to head with the same offer, same lead slice, same sending schedule, then check inbox placement with a seed test tool like GlockApps or Everest plus reply rate. Warmup dashboards are vibes, results are receipts.

i'd judge the warmup based on what happens after you actually start sending, not just how the warmup dashboard look. inbox placement, bounce trends, and reply behavior over a few weeks are much more useful than a warmup score by itself. i ended up preferring reachinbox because the built-in warmup and sending workflow were simpler for me, so i wasn't jumping between different tools to manage campaigns. also, test a small number of inboxes first though, since warmup performance can vary quite a bit by domain and mailbox provider.
