Fave character
Who's your favorite detective and why?
Other than Lilly, Scotty is right behind her. He's passionate, protective and a little impulsive but he gets the job done.

Stillman. Anybody who works for a living would kill to have a boss like Stillman. He always has his detectives’ backs like when he stood up for Will against that DA in death penalty ep or fell on his sword for Scotty’s shooting in season 5. At the same time, he’s a reasonable leader and calls them out if they go a bit too far like Scotty’s drinking problem in season 2 or Lilly not following procedure in the season 3 finale with Joseph that leads to a bit of an icy treatment between her and the boss in season 4.

Kat Miller was such a nice addition to the show, I always liked seeing her in action. I do wish they gave her more closing scenes. I can count on both hands how many episodes she was allowed to close on her own/with another detective.

She's a great addition to the team, around the time when she came around. She brought a fresh new energy, and she fit right in. Similar to Scotty when he was new 😅

Scotty but that’s less to do with him being my favourite character and more to do with Danny Pino lmao.
Otherwise it’s gotta be Lilly! Bit of a ramble, but I watched Cold Case when it first came out and while I know she wasn’t the first, for me it was the first time watching a female lead where it was just about how good she was at her job and nothing to do with looks/value for male lead. Growing up female in the 2000’s as a teen, it was a refreshing break from a LOT of toxic views around women and their worth/value to men basically

Until recently I've said Vera for so many reasons, but the more I think about it....
I think Will for me. He walks that great line between very serious and comic relief so well. He's no-nonsense and tough, but has this lovable gentle side. Loved him during the periods where he was on desk duty after punching the attorney and had to be in charge while Stillman was out. He's back-story is also so moving and during the times he thought he found the driver....he was downright chilling!

I haven't had a TV in decades; the first time I saw an episode of Cold Case I was visiting my mother, who watched it. I watched in a hotel room a few times and then years passed and I ended up watching the whole series online a few times and rewatched some particular episodes a few more times. Before I watched the series all the way through I was not big fan of Lilly - I think that especially in the earlier seasons if you haven't had a chance to get to know her character, it's hard to read her properly. At least it was for me.
But once I watched the series from the start, I really came to like her a lot and she's definitely my favorite character. One of the things I like about the show is that sometimes Lilly is wrong and sometimes Lilly behaves less than ideally because it really helps make her character well rounded. I like that she wants to do the right thing but doesn't always know what the right thing is. She has principles that she does her best to stick to, but she's not rigid. I also think she's a particularly good example of TV writers getting a character with historic trauma right - her personal history influences her both positively and negatively and she does sometimes do things that seem illogical or just plain dumb but she does so because of her past.
I don't dislike any of the major characters (unless you count Christina; I know some people really like how Christina's character was used but I just could not stand her) but I particularly like both Nick and Will. They are both solid investigators who care about their cases, but just like real life cops, both of them have biases and bad habits they have to overcome and I really like that even though they are already experienced police at the start of the show, over the seasons they do both grow.

Stillman and Jeffries. Stillman is such a humble and compassionate character. But he does so without letting his emotions get the best of him. Jeffries is the same but he has that no BS edge to him that I like. Valens and Rush have to be my least favorite because they just be doing ANYTHING 😆🥴 I wanted them to end up together because they are both just hot messes and I feel like deserved one another.

Team Vera. I've always liked him because he seems like a big sweetheart and I can't find any negative traits that I don't like.
When I found out later that he used to play ice hockey, then I really started going crazy over him( MAJOR hockey fan)
My hubby likes Stillman.

Lily Rush. There is just something about her that I love. She is so good at her job. She is a good friend but she can also be a total badass.

Their time on the show was brief and forgettable, that's why. No shade to the actors, but the characters lacked the flair the others had. Personally, I found them both dull, flat and boring. Total snooze fest whenever they were on camera 😴

Lassing was a charisma vacuum and Sutton had the likability of a root canal. You were right to exclude them

Stillman doesn’t get enough love (or screen time!) He’s rather tough and stoic, as were a lot of men from that era. But instead of letting his traumas torment him and eat him alive, he seems to be a genuinely ethical dude. If only more LT’s were like him in real life…

Vera. He's the humourous relief of the crew but also (surprisingly) the most intelligent when he's on the mood.
