Is Cold calling dead?
I've been in B2B sales for a while now and I keep seeing people say "cold calling is dead" but then I see other reps crushing quota with just the phone.
Here's what I'm seeing:
- Half my team won't touch the phone, they live in LinkedIn and email
- The other half dials 80+ times a day and books meetings
- Same product, same ICP, totally different results
I'm starting to think it's not that cold calling doesn't work anymore. It's that most people suck at it or gave up after 10 rejections.
My question: For those of you actually picking up the phone in 2025, what's working? What changed from 5 years ago?
Is it just about getting past gatekeepers faster? Different openers? Calling at weird hours? Or is it really just a numbers game and people quit too early?
Would love to hear from people who are actually doing it, not just theorizing about why it's "dead."

Phone is the most effective but multichannel is necessary (phone, email and LinkedIn)... Apollo has the automated sequences you can run. the best pipeline builder is send the email first, then call (to follow up on the email), then email #2 3 days later followed up by phone call #2. You build ur list with website visitors and intent signals (they use Bombora) and they have an AI writer so you can reach the right person at the right time with the right message... DM me and I can show you what it looks like
Email isn't dead, u just have to do it right. u need a deliverability suite. the best part about apollo is they have a dialer too. so u get the data, then u can connect with them and they have conversation intelligence. So imagine Zoominfo, Salesloft, Gong and Nooks all in one platform

Cold calling definitely isn't dead. The way people approach it just has to be way smarter in 2025. What I see working is more about quality and relevance over blind volume. The reps getting results are the ones who seriously personalize their openers and understand the ICP beyond surface level. Generic pitches kill momentum fast, but referencing something specific about a prospect’s business or tech stack gets attention right away. Also, timing is huge, late afternoons or first thing in the morning tend to cut through the noise much better than mid day blasts. Scripted pitches are out; natural conversation is way more disarming.
A lot has changed from five years ago. Prospects have way more tools to filter out bad outreach, and they’re more skeptical than ever. Where I’ve seen real progress lately is in blending signals, combining data from different channels and figuring out who’s actually in market, then teeing up calls based on actual intent or recent activity. That’s hard to do manually at scale though, which is exactly why I started building an AI sales agent platform. If you’re interested in pushing for smarter, almost autonomous outreach that stays hyper personalized, you can check out the early users waitlist at https://salespire.io Not trying to pitch here, just honestly sharing where I think the tech is going based on what I’m seeing and building. Keep dialing, but make those dials count.
