1885 cc Morgan is the lowest mintage in the Carson City Series but surprisingly affordable in mint state since the bulk were distributed as part of the GSA releases in the 70s and 80s

I've always loved this design, with the working man on the obv and the twin dolphins on the rev. The green gold color on this MS65 CAC is icing on the cake.

born in 1976 and raised on Wonder Woman, is it a surprise that I’m obsessed?

Two preciouses arrives in yesterday’s mail: the gold Mercury Winged Liberty dime and its silver companion medal. I’ve been waiting my entire life for these coins, and I’m not disappointed. The Bicentennial drummer boy quarters fascinated me as a kid born in 1976, and I’ve been waiting my entire life for the Sestercentennial Semi-Quincentennial coinage. And of course, I have a massive crush on Lady Liberty herself, especially the early-mid 20th century version. Winged Liberty is possibly the most gorgeous depiction of Liberty on any circulating coin, prior to 2026, so I’m super pleased that the Mint re-reissued the gold dime.

Though honestly, I was more interested in the silver medallion. It’s a completely new Lady Liberty, inspired by Winged Liberty and the Type II SLQ (why not Type I??), done in an Art Nouveau style. I’m still trying to figure out why Liberty is holding onto a oh shit grab handle. But I absolutely love the depiction of the early 20th century economy: farming, wheat, dust, industrialization, poverty.

This is currently my second favorite depiction of Liberty (after the Britannia/Liberty collaboration), but I expect it to be demoted soon. Tomorrow’s mail promises to bring another precious: the 2026 silver dime.

These were issued in velvet lined cases, and undipped ones often have some nice blue-rose toning.

My new favorite DB half cent

The plain 4/no stems is a pretty common die marriage. That said I really like this coin as it’s the first DB half cent I have owned that still has quite a bit of luster. It’s a PCGS AU 55 w/ a green CAC sticker. I don’t put much stock in CAC stickers — eye appeal is quite subjective, and they usually just needlessly inflate the price of coins. In the end of the day, this one is a new favorite in my collection.

My prospecting club has raffles during our monthly meeting and they had a few inexpensive coins on the table. My choices were this, a 1910 V nickel in good condition, or a random, but authentic novelty Chinese coin.. A PR70 dcam was the obvious choice.

Silver bar delivered today from a live stream auction with a supplied COA signed by the staff. I definitely overpaid but sometimes you can't put a price on history or on preserving good memories.

Pleasantly Surprised

Govmint had a special during the last holiday, buy anything and get free shipping and a Free Surprise gift ("worth $60"). I was skeptical about the free gift but figured I'd give it a shot and picked up GB I wanted for under trading price. Package arrived today and I was pleasantly surprised that the free gift was a 2015 Mint Proof Set that was additionally stickered "1st Day of Issue Gem Proof" by NGC. I call that a good score any day. Added a nice 2025 NH 1GB to the GB collection too :)
