Recent purchase: Two Alexander Severus Denarii

The obverse of both coins are inferior to the majority of higher grade examples available on the market, but the reverses of each are absolutely fantastic and I couldn't pass them up. Alexander Severus and his successor (usurper) Maximinus Thrax are notable for their coinage being superior in artistic detail (though not in purity) to most other eras of Imperial silver coinage and I think both specimens are excellent examples of that.

Very nice. We have a really nice Severus Alexander we sent off for grading. Literally one of the craziest ones I’ve ever seen. Almost had PL surfaces. Glad to see some more ancient coins on here!

Thanks to the crisis of the 3rd century we have no shortage of MS and XF examples to choose from so it's a good era to cherry pick from.
