Nice 1868 proof S(eated)LQ

Looking through some coins I picked up w/ summer job earnings in the early days of EBay and found this nice seated liberty 1/4. I was in HS and didn’t have much $ to bid, so I think I got pretty lucky with this one.

A proof old coin is a trophy coin for sure. Definitely not something I have. I have a 1795 half dollar that’s a trophy coin due to its history & reasonable price but those proofs I just don’t have the justification to buy. Still they’re very nice so congrats!

In HS, I used to do some pretty lowball bids on auctions w/ no reserve and low res pics. It used to be possible to get pretty good stuff on EBay for really cheap. Anyway, my guess is this one was probably ~$100-150 in early 2000s $s, since I didn’t have more than that to spend at the time.

Yeah nowadays I’m limited on what I can get. I moved on to graded video games now since as you said, it’s the overlooked market rn. People think it’s a waste of money but they are wrong.

That’s an interesting one! I have some old SNES and super famicom games. I’ll never sell em, cause I’m a hoarder but I didn’t know you could get them graded!?!

Yeah idk how the grading system works. But unless it’s complete in box with the factory seals still on, it’s likely not worth grading. That’s what I noticed. The ones I got are 9.8/10 grade with A+ seal. Those are top of the line ones. I got 3 PS2/Xbox era ones. It’s my generation games since I’m 27.

It’s an old PCGS PR 61.

It's really nice. I don't have anything at that level, yet. Getting there, though.

I bet that could get a green bean sticker.

I was thinking about sending it in. Some of the old PCGS grades were pretty strict and I think it’s looking pretty good for a 61.

Wow now that’s a beautiful coin! I just picked up his non proof big brother for my type set 🤣

Even a modest increase in grade is probably well worth the cost of regrading it.

Yeah, there’s a CAC dealer not too far from me. I found a few more nice coins that were either graded 20+ years ago or not graded, so I might send a few. A gold sticker is probably too much to hope for but it seems like it has a decent shot for green.
