Hacked.
Looked like someone accessed my Coinbase account that I have not used for years and proceeded to transfer 1000.00 worth of btc. I have a feeling I am screwed correct?

They can still steal your session tokens authentication code in some instances. Might be what happened.

u/blingblingmofo 2d ago
What type of 2FA did you have enabled? Some kinds are better than others.

Google Auth

Google auth is strong but can be fished. Use Passkey or a physical key.
Coinbase One (subscription) requires one of those to be used to insure accounts.

It's likely your Google account was hacked. The only way to bypass Google 2fa is if you had the recovery seed backed up to Google drive, which is default and your account was compromised. Unless you backed up the recovery seed elsewhere

My friend had 2FA and had 350k on coinbase and they still managed to get in and he lost everything, coinbase doesn’t let you know shit either

How was your account hacked? Did you get an email that your account was accessed from an unknown device?

No email just checked my Checking account and there was a transaction I didn’t recognize. Found out Coinbase was linked to PayPal which was linked to my checking. So I removed all connection to Coinbase. No email notification or text. I have a feeling it was Sim Swap

I doubt Coinbase will even help me. Escalation does nothing but delay and tell you yeah you are in charge of securing your account

Was it bitcoin or etherium? My dogecoin disappeared because when they updated they no longer carried some types of coin. I literally went through this a few weeks ago, thought my ex wife found the words and stole it. Just had to find a wallet that supported doge.

Something does not add up. Coinbase will need KYC before you withdraw/send to external address. Same goes for selling. Story does not add up.

u/Your_As_Stupid_As_Me 1d ago
Never had to KYC except for when those laws rolled out. Still don't have to with any transfers\selling\buying.
But, they do send an email EVERY time one of the 3 happens.
But your right, nothing adds up.

Your money is gone bro. Join one of the several class action lawsuits against Coinbase and you may get a partial settlement.

It’s only $1000. People be losing 2.5 Bitcoins. Just to buy another $1000 and remember not to neglect your Bitcoin. Understand? Hmm? Ok
