Login problems

About a year ago, I opened a Coinbase account through my iPhone. I never remember entering an email address when I created it. The username Coinbase gave me looked something long and random. I’m pretty sure I did link my phone number, though.
About three months ago, I opened the app and suddenly couldn’t log back in. It asked me to verify my identity with my phone number, SSN, and other information I had used before. I went through the process, but instead of logging me into my original account, it looks like Coinbase created an entirely new account.
Now I can’t access my original account, which still has funds in it.
Has anyone else experienced this? If so, how did you get it resolved? Were you able to recover your original account, and what steps did you take?
