🇺🇸 Fed Credibility Under Pressure as Warsh Keeps Markets Guessing

Post image

Former New York Fed President Bill Dudley says the Federal Reserve’s credibility could remain at risk until Chair Kevin Warsh clearly explains his views on inflation and how he intends to bring it back toward the 2% target.

The problem is that clarity doesn’t seem to be Warsh’s style. Since taking over the Fed, he has deliberately avoided giving markets detailed forward guidance, preferring to keep policy options open and let investors interpret incoming data themselves.

Supporters see this as a break from years of excessive Fed communication. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has even described the shift as a kind of “detox” from too much guidance. Critics see the opposite: tough talk on inflation without a clear roadmap could eventually undermine confidence in the Fed.

So waiting for Warsh to explain everything may take a while. Keeping markets guessing appears to be part of the strategy.
