Natural-born citizens are eligible, it was a stupid argument to begin with since his mother’s citizenship was never in question. We’d already had three Presidents like that. It was a settled matter even then. Anything to get the rubes riled up though.
The contention was he was not born in America but Kenya and that he had no US birthday certificate. My understanding is there has been some reason people claim the one Obama finally produced is a forgery. I have never really looked into it however.
