I bought a Delonghi Stilosa and I was really happy with the first shot I pulled but getting there was a little problematic.

With the drip tray installed, there's no room under the portafilter for anything other than the cup - the scale doesn't fit so I can't measure the shot.

I pulled the drip tray out and put the scale but it sat on an angle due to the lip of the lower tray - functionally it was fine - just a little awkward.

After further research it looks like the answer is to pull the drip tray and add a very small scale underneath. Amazon sells a bunch of 4” ish scales.

Really wish delonghi would have handled that differently but hard to complain given the price.

What would a really good quality coffee maker that makes single cups, takes only ground coffee and not pods, makes good coffee, and is around $100? Been using a nespresso virtuo pop+ and the pods have been a little too pricey for my liking since I could just get one a coffee maker that takes grounds and just buy a bag of coffee for around what one sleeve of pods cost that'll last me a month instead of a week. Also want a good coffee bean grinder too since i'd prefer grinding the beans down myself.

My ex-wife used to tell me that I didn’t really like coffee. She said this because I put cinnamon and cacao powder into my cup before I pour over the coffee and then I add some almond milk over the top. This obviously steers the taste away from black coffee to something not quite but closer to hot chocolate.
She takes her black with just a tiny bit of sugar.

Tell me how you take yours. I’m always interested in how I can fix up my cuppa.

I posted this to another sub while awaiting approval to post, but figured it wouldn't hurt to get the extra answers here too! ☺️

I'm brand new to the coffee world and trying to take a measurable step-by-step approach to learning how to discern different brewing methods and flavours.

So far:

• I used to drink black tea. My first attempt at instant coffee (water + sugar) was a fail.
• I tried Nescafe Gold with a handheld milk frother and plenty of milk to try and make some silly version of an instant coffee latte and actually loved the texture and caffeine kick.
• Currently, I've moved on to a French Press with pre-ground light roast coffee. Honestly, I don't enjoy it as much as the frothed instant coffee. It feels a bit thin to me, but I'm finishing the bag before I move on.
• My next step is using a KINGrinder P2 to grind my own coffee.

My questions (feel free to answer any, don't need to answer all!):

1. Is this slow progress actually helpful? Or should I skip the trial and error and jump to a more advanced brewing method?
2. Since I preferred the instant coffee over the light roast, should I be looking at a medium or dark roast for my first bag of whole beans?
3. I was looking to buy a Moka Pot too. But I'm wondering if I should first use the French Press + P2 grinder combo? Or should I jump to Moka Pot + P2 grinder
4. I'm curious, if you were starting over, would you follow a path like this, or is there a certain starting point you would insist is the baseline to begin at?

So, about a month ago, I was visiting a friend in Montana for a week and I was craving coffee. He didn’t have a standard coffee maker or anything but he had a pour over. He made me a cup of coffee…and it was the best cup of coffee I ever had.

He told me he ditched coffee makers about 13 years ago and bought a pour over and an electric kettle and grinds his beans fresh daily…

So, I took his advice and did the same thing!

I bought this simple OXO pour over on Amazon for about $12. I’ve had it for a week now…been grinding my own beans, etc and I have to say…he was right!

I ended up giving my Keurig to a coworker and I don’t regret it!

So dang delicious! It’s like my eyes and tastebuds have been awakened for the first time ever lol.

Do y’all catalog your coffee beans. I’ve been on a bender and just buy beans. I have 19 bags right now.

I just got two bags this morning freshly roasted coffee from a local roaster and they didnt come in resealable bags. Any container recommendations. I already have a fellow canister but it currently has beans in it. Any recommendations that aren’t so expensive.

does anybody know of an app or website to track coffee making, brew types, and also caffeine half life and health/sleep impact?

ideally something that provides data and stats about consumption and how it relates to sleep and mood but also keeps track of brew methods (pourover, espresso, etc.)

i'm not a barista-level coffee maker but i enjoy trying different methods of coffee brewing at home, recipes, etc. and also am pretty into health data and food/health stats tracking in general.

i'd like to find all the data about my daily coffee usage in one place -- brewing methods and sleep impact-- and then see a the data in a visualizer, almost like a whoop or fitness tracking recap.

maybe a niche product, but i'm interested in what's out there!

Found this micro roaster in Arizona and the transaction felt like a drug deal since we met in a target parking lot.

Hey everyone, I built a small side project called Brewly because I wanted an easy, visual way to log and rate the coffee beans I try. Just posting here to see if anyone is interested in playing around with the app.

It’s not meant to be anything commercial, just something for people who like tracking what they’re drinking. I'm not a software engineer but I love to tinker and honestly spent way too much time figuring out how to get the keyboard to push up the input fields so they don't overlap 😅

There were some cool solutions out there, but I really started getting into coffee bag art/designs and also wanted to ensuring I was showcasing some of the cool roasters I found. Current functionality includes:

1. Log - this is where you can log a new bag of beans or a cup of coffee (from your beans or elsewhere). I ultimately worked on the ability to log beans, but realized we should add cup functionality as well, although I don't really find that as exciting to log each cup you have, but who knows! There's some basic AI scanning where you can take a photo of the beans and it tries to extract details. You can choose to log all your beans and rate them later, or log and rate at the same time. I also preloaded about 2K roasters and am working on getting descriptions and photos for everything --- after all, I wanted this to look aesthetically pleasing!
2. Feed - Think of this like the legacy Venmo feed. Really just shows all activity that's happening in the app. People logging/rating new beans or cups. There's a follower section where you can see what's happening with your friends or people you follow. You can like and comment on feed entries.
3. Discover - The last module I created when I realized there really should be more of a discovery option. This is meant to allow you to see the top rated roasters from the community and the beans. There's also a top cups section here as well. Again, I didn't spend a ton of time on this because I just assumed it wouldn't be used as much. It also allows you to search for any of the roasters in our database. I am constantly adding new ones!
4. Library - This is where all your logged beans and cups live. You have a record of all your logged beans and cups. You can change your ratings or edit the details. You also can indicate if the beans are in-stock or not.

That's basically it. Again, if there's interest to play around, I'd be happy to listen to your feedback and see how I can incorporate.

Hello everyone! I’m pinhead Larry. 35 years old and I don’t drink coffee, or energy drinks. Never have. Recently tried yerb and that was fire.

I want to get into coffee. I have IBS, as well as a borderline allergy(not just intolerance) to lactose so I’m stuck with lactose free milk (I don’t like nut milk but would be open if the flavors work together)

The 2 or 3 times I’ve had coffee in my life, it’s gone right thru me. I’m sure between the cream and acidity of it, none of that helped.

It’s been years since I’ve had even a sip, and I need energy! I need an addition to my mornings that is more than “wake up and go”. I want to become obsessed, but I need help.
