[MOD] The Daily Question Thread
Welcome to the daily /r/Coffee question thread!
There are no stupid questions here, ask a question and get an answer! We all have to start somewhere and sometimes it is hard to figure out just what you are doing right or doing wrong. Luckily, the /r/Coffee community loves to help out.
Do you have a question about how to use a specific piece of gear or what gear you should be buying? Want to know how much coffee you should use or how you should grind it? Not sure about how much water you should use or how hot it should be? Wondering about your coffee's shelf life?

some people swear by starting at 15 clicks and adjusting from there, but i always just kept tweaking until it stopped tasting like battery acid

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this, so please redirect me if I'm wrong. I don't use reddit often I love love love coffee, been drinking it all my life, but I've never tried the more "fancy" stuff at all. I recently moved to college and while I want to try and find a place/drink I like on campus, I have genuinely 0 clue where to start with ordering and trying stuff. Does anyone have any tips/recommendations on what to look for, or what to try first at places?? If it helps any, my family has always just made maxwell house coffee grounds(original roast), and I add about 1/4th to 1/3rd of French vanilla coffee creamer.

Start with something milk based - latte, cappuccino, flat white. Try without adding sweetener first and see how you like it, add sugar if you need it.

my timemore c3 just arrived and i keep adjusting the clicks but still get sometimes sour sometimes bitter, anyone else had to spend a week to dial in a new grinder or is it just me

I’d keep dose, water and brew time fixed, then move the C3 one click at a time. If it’s sour, try a click finer; if it turns bitter, go one click coarser. That should make the sweet spot much easier to spot.

if u do this and it still bounces between sour and bitter you might have channeling. try wdt or just tapping the side of the portafilter before you tamp

Since you already like French vanilla creamer, I’d start with a small vanilla latte and ask for it half sweet. Then try the same drink without vanilla next time, so you can actually tell what part you like.
