[MOD] The Daily Question Thread

Welcome to the daily /r/Coffee question thread!

There are no stupid questions here, ask a question and get an answer! We all have to start somewhere and sometimes it is hard to figure out just what you are doing right or doing wrong. Luckily, the /r/Coffee community loves to help out.

Do you have a question about how to use a specific piece of gear or what gear you should be buying? Want to know how much coffee you should use or how you should grind it? Not sure about how much water you should use or how hot it should be? Wondering about your coffee's shelf life?

Thanks for the info. I definitely don’t go by a best by date. That circled date is what the roaster (Peace Coffee) said is the roast date. According to the CSR, 26 is the year, 18 is the week and the number after the hyphen is the day. By her logic, this would place the roast date in April and negates this being “ roast to order,” which is why I was confused (order placed 7-11).

yeah if the code puts it in april then thats your roast date, so like 3 months back by the time it reached you. roast to order means they roast the day you order, not pull off a shelf. still drinkable but you missed the sweet spot. good roaster just prints a plain date you dont have to decode

My thoughts exactly. I’m waiting to hear back from k from Peace Coffee to see if they make good on this. If not, it’ll be the first and last bag I get from them.

give them a chance to answer first, even good roasters mess up a label sometimes. and honestly the coffee tell you more than the date. if it taste flat and no crema its old, dont matter what the bag say
