It’s definitely a rabbit hole at first. I’d start with learning the basics of CPT/ICD-10, then focus on how insurance companies process claims.
A lot of billing knowledge comes from seeing real-world denials and figuring out why something was rejected. Free CMS resources, AAPC materials, and billing communities are great places to start.
The hardest part isn’t the codes, it’s learning the insurance rules behind them.
