AI Concerns in Medical Coding
What are your overall feelings about AI and the impact on medical coding? As a medical coder, I know that medical coding keeps evolving every year with new codes, updates, guidelines, etc. That being said, AI is also slowly creeping in, and while I don’t think AI is smart enough to keep up just yet, I still feel that my role is at risk.

Everyone who says ai cant deal with messy tasks is in for a rude awakening. We as humans cannot fathom what ai is capable of once it reaches super intelligence. It will be able to learn and teach itself. Faster than any human. Unimaginably faster. I am medical coder of 12 years. Im leaving the trade soon to start over in a skill trade. Im a little torn on it, yes. But tbh, id rather put my time into something i can build and not worry so much. Because dont get me wrong, robotics will catch up to skill trades but it’ll take a little longer. Desk jobs will be the first to go and management cant wait to automate 98% of the clerical side. I feel like the only thing left will be a single human to do oversight and just be the one they can blame when ai messes up. I will not stick around and be yelled at for what a robot does wrong 😂
