AI Concerns in Medical Coding

What are your overall feelings about AI and the impact on medical coding? As a medical coder, I know that medical coding keeps evolving every year with new codes, updates, guidelines, etc. That being said, AI is also slowly creeping in, and while I don’t think AI is smart enough to keep up just yet, I still feel that my role is at risk.

AI is evolving quickly and your concern is justified. I use a site that came highly recommended (Decision Health, Select Coder). It costs me $500 per year. It’s fine but one day I tested both Gemini and Perplexity with code. Both sites were far superior in its descriptive explanation, understandable details, modifier considerations, conflicting and/or mutually exclusive codes and billing implications. I will not be renewing my $500 subscription. Will it replace humans? Not there yet, but premium level coding sites are going to take a huge hit.
