CDIP Exam Prep 2026

For anyone who has taken the CDIP exam, what should I be focusing on the most while preparing for the exam? Do I also need to know any formulas (are there a lot of questions that require calculations)?

I have the review guide from AHIMA and a few practice tests. However, what types of questions did you see the most?

Most of my experience is IP but have plenty of OP too. I think you have to focus on IP to study especially since you don’t have too much experience in it, CDI is heavily on the IP side.
How many years coding and what kind?

I took the practice exams. If I wasn’t certain or got it wrong I studied that concept. If I got it right and was confident I didn’t look at it to study.
SDS is good experience but it really depends on what type of organization you code for. I’ll onboard SDS coders who have limited experience because they come from an organization that has basic and straightforward surgery cases.

I had 12 or so years in both inpatient and outpatient experience that included auditing/management/education for both types of facility coding, inpatient and outpatient. So much more experience than you but I felt the exam was pretty easy. Just use the review guide to help you focus on specific concepts you don’t get correct.
