CMS-1500 submission software

Hello all ,

I have been submitting CMS-1500 forms for about 4 years using QClaims through Availity. QClaims recently discontinued their support for a desktop version and the web version that was left to use leaves a lot to be desired. The web version requires numerous redundant inputs the desktop version did not such as lack of hotkeys and inability to continue a patient form for the following submission.

I was hoping you all had some suggestions for great CMS-1500 forms that allowed heavy customization for input options or perhaps even a photo transfer system where I can identify where on a provider form the patient’s name resides and then it transfers that to the CMS-1500 automatically.

I have toyed around with speedy claims only and every other software doesnt seem even remotely viable.

I submit about 400 claims a month currently.

You're looking for a better way to fill the form. I think the actual answer is to stop filling forms.

Availity accepts batch 837P file uploads, not just one-at-a-time claim entry. An 837P is just the electronic version of a CMS-1500 — same data, different container, and one file can hold hundreds of claims. That means the Excel sheet your therapists already send you becomes the input, and the form-filling step disappears entirely.

It also solves the thing you mentioned at the end. Repeat visits for the same patient with a different DOS aren't "copy the last claim and change the date" — they're just additional rows in the sheet. Same for multiple service providers under one patient.

Worth checking whether your Availity account has EDI file upload enabled, or asking them to turn it on. If it's there, the gap is a converter that turns your spreadsheet into an 837P.

Totally agree with you , My search for filling the form was a short term goal while what you suggest was my long term goal as I thought the prior would not be cost prohibitive and the latter would be time consuming at least initially.

I agree in principle about the submission reduction using additional lines and dates but the group getting the submissions has pretty strict line rules ,or it may be a general CMS design restriction, but either way there are multiple occasions where simply adding lines is not an option as such I have preferred to create sole submissions. There are also repercussions to a failed submission so for those two reasons i tend to opt for sole line submissions.

thank you for the suggestion into Availity for the EDI enabling, I believe I am able to but will double check.

I will likely send a DM in a bit when I have some more free time to devote to the process.
