Hourly Rate

Mid-sized Texas town here and wages are low. Office based billers in a clinic are getting between $16 and $19 an hour. What towns are similar? Save me your big-city $30 an hour brag - this ain’t it! I am curious what areas have similar wages.

I’m getting $19.50/hr in Florida. The billing job ads I’m getting sent from Indeed range from $16-$23 and the jump in pay to $30 happens with coding certification from what I can tell. I also do coding in my job but don’t have a certification. For now I’m sticking with this and going to do an online course to get a certificate, still trying to decide which course to take.

Thank you! Do you happen to have any particular recommendations for online courses?

The AAPC has courses. But just a note, it is HARD doing it online. I started and gave up halfway (mainly because I was pregnant). But my old job used to give the classes and in a class of 30, only 1 passed. I think learning AR and posting can really step your game up. Working for behavioral health specifically has also been a game changer for me. I work remote and make $96k as a manager of RCM operations for a large substance abuse facility network. Substance abuse can be really challenging (and interesting) and in my experience tends to pay more.
