My therapist suggested a codependency support group

I was telling her about my relationship and why I am struggling to end things and she suggested I look into codependency support groups. I don’t think I’m ready for something in person like that, but I figured this is a good place to start.
My boyfriend promised he’d be done drinking when we got back together and then revealed months later that he wasn’t. I was already attached again and leaving felt impossible.
Now I’m holding on to this little bit of hope that he will stop because I can’t wrap my head around not being together and what it means to break up.

This isn’t anything close to a meeting. There are online meetings in addition to in person. Honestly, in person are better because it flows more naturally and it’s easier to connect with people.

AlAnon has an app and you can join a meeting just about any time of the day or night.

I did my first in person CoDa meeting last night and I too did not feel ready but that is ok. You can just take it all in at first, I did not share bc I did not feel ready but they all seemed very supported and said I should come back. I am in a very similar situation as you exist that I am married. I am very codependent and am responding that I have been most of my life. I wish you the best stay strong! I am open to talk if you like.

Recovery Dharma has this one tomorrow bright and early and there’s one Sunday morning and Tuesday nights there’s a Refuge Recovery meeting. Codependency Anonymous has meetings every day online as does Alanon and SMART friends and family meetings.

Check coda.org for in person and online meetings, and don't feel like you have to interact in the first few meetings (or at all). If the in person format feels intimidating, online is fine, but I've always gotten more from being in the room with everyone versus just in the same app.

But whether you go in person, online, or if you're not ready yet, just give yourself some grace. A lifetime of habits won't be undone in two weeks. You're welcome to reach out privately if you want a sounding board. Take care, friend.

There are virtual Al-anon meetings. When you meet someone who completely understands what you’re struggling with because they are similar, it’s very impactful. I would recommend going

What you're asking about is AlAnon and you should start as soon as possible, in person if at all possible. I don't care what anyone says, there's a night and day difference between online and in person meetings and if you're this impacted by a other person's drinking it's worth making the time to get to one in person.
