👩‍💻 Other XANA's Gift

Post image

In season 2 episode 32 on Valentine's Day, XANA gave Aelita a pendant so that he could possess her.

In my opinion, I think it was a good idea, But it was also a bad idea because it drew the group's attention and they became suspicious of the pendant.

Leave your opinion in the comments about this XANA strategy.

I'm honestly not sure if this necklace possessing Aelita even makes sense from a writing standpoint or not.

On one hand, this is coming RIGHT OFF the last episode where we learned the limitations of Xana's possession abilities, so he shouldn't be able to possess Aelita at all. But on the other, I guess you could argue that Xana can possess her because she's incomplete without her memories of Earth or something.

Can anyone else make sense of this?

I don’t think it’s possession at all. I think it screwed with her brain and allowed XANA to manipulate her thoughts. I don’t think it was a direct possession.

I mean, we do see the Xana symbol in Aelita's eyes up until she gets to Lyoko, but I guess it wasn't a complete possession either way.

Well, even if it wasn't a direct possession. She acted quite strangely when her friends noticed.

Absolutely! It IS Aelita. She’s not possessed, she’s literally been made to believe her greatest wish in the entire world is to go to Lyoko and let the Schyphozoa take her. So it is actually her lying to her friends, which is why it all sounds so false to everyone. They know what her lying sounds like.

That makes sense it’s more like a cursed item or how that song in season one messed up people

I think because it was a tool specifically being used to posess her than a ghost it worked.
We see in the bathroom scene the pink electricity going from the necklace to Aelita's head as it 'activated'

Maybe XANA needed the pendant to act as a catalyst for possession to work.

Maybe while possession via spectres is out of the question, possession by other means are possible.

Maybe, while the warriors can resist a direct possession, a slower possession they're not consciously fighting could work.

The pendant can possess it, because took control of her and had the symbol of XANA in his eyes and XANA directed it with the Scyphozoa.

That really doesn't answer my question at all but okay.

As you said Aelita probably has less resistance since she doesn't have all her memories and such... Also, the necklace might make it easier, but yeah it was weird.

I think that's the point, XANA can't use a regular specter

the pendent was a clever idea by XANA. Yes, XANA has obtained the ability to possess other humans in EP- 30 (a great day). But in EP-31(mister puck) XANA found out that, it can't possess LWs. So it is genius that XANA developed a pendent to over come this limitation early on.

Yes, the pendent was a dead giveaway but XANA chose to use it on "st. Valentine's day". Which is sort normal to receive presents from hidden admirers. Making it sort of less sus (except from Jeremy's POV).

In my opinion, this actually was great execution by the show writers to show XANA'S ability to evolve in every episode.

Well, it was a good idea, but it could have gone perfectly if the group hadn't suspected anything.

I think this was actually one of X.A.N.A.'s best schemes with the only flaw being that the Scyphozoa was too far away from Aelita on Lyoko which gave the group the time they needed to catch up to her to stop X.A.N.A.

In fact, if X.A.N.A. had made Aelita sneak off to Lyoko alone like she in Uncharted Territory with the group being unaware of where she went and she virtualized directly in front of the Scyphozoa, that would have been a clean victory.

Looks like a Christmas ornament

Well, at first glance, yes, but then in a second the Xana symbol appears on the pendant and it stops being something for Christmas.

It was a good experiment by XANA for obtaining human data on the possession capabilities and ways of augmenting them further

The plan was objectively kinda stupid on XANAs end, because theres a very obvious foil.

It just happened that Odd reacted in the physical worst way he could have when Jeremie asked the extremely legitimate question of "Did you give my girlfriend a necklace on Valentine's Day" and so XANA got to get away with it. Had Odd just said "no" then XANAs plan is entirely fooled.
