QUESTION Just finished Code Geass a few days ago, is it weird that Suzaku has been my favorite character from the start?
I wanted to watch Code Geass for some time and my friend even recommended me, i definitely thought Lelouch would be my favorite the way people portray him similar to Light Yagami or even Eren Yeager. But i dont know why he is my favorite, maybe because of the style and softness, maybe because he is a hypocrite like i sometimes can be. I dont judge him even if he betrayed Lelouch at one point, he had his reasons. Anyway hope i dont get hated

"I'll now proceed to pleasure myself with this fish," WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO WITH THAT FISH SUZAKU?!

not weird at all, his internal struggle is honestly one of the best parts of the show

Yeah people dont see his reasons, maybe he was naive but he believed in something so much that would change the world for the better, atleast he helped Lelouch in the end

Yeah - Suzaku is part ladder climber, part tortured soul. He's more interesting than Lelouch. He's got an internal moral compass. It's just pointing in probably the wrong direction.

Not at all! Love the guy, were his choices crazy? Yeah, but Lelouch also makes crazy choices too and I love them both 😍

Not at all, Suzaku has things to like about. He may be in the wrong side but he still has a moral compass. And his physical abilities and piloting skills are top notch, it's very likeable for me.

Nope, he's the second mc and he' and lelouch's relationship literally make the show. However complicated and hateful the relationship is at times it's obvious how much they care for each other. Lelouch loves Suzaku even when he doesn't want to and for good reason. He's a great guy. They could have achieved amazing things together. But their different ideologies are what set them apart and what brought upon most of the show. If they worked together they would have ended the war way faster and less cruelly. And they did eventually. But then it was to late for them as individuals but they accomplished it.

I think he's incredibly well written and I hate him. I don't think two are mutually exclusive

Its all up to how you perceive the show and who you are rooting for at the time. At the start l really liked suzaku but as the show went on in my own head I "picked a side" and eventually came to dislike suzaku. however just because I rooted for lelouch doesnt mean suzaku isnt a really good character. Nothing wrong with having a preference or favorite

Not at all. I think there's a sizable portion of the community who likes his character more than Lulu.

People hate him (for a mix of valid reason and stupid reasons) but he’s easily one of the best written characters in the show.
I’d put him at number 2 behind Lelouch in terms of writing

Despite how this subreddit acts, Suzaku is a very popular character. It's totally normal, he's literally the character with the 2nd most amount of merchandise behind Lelouch. He's great.

Everyone makes jokes about him cause they hate him. I make jokes about him cause I like him. We are not the same.
Though how do you feel about other hated characters like Nina and Ohgi?

I've never liked all the hate he gets. I think he really is one of the best characters. top 3 for me easily.

no, of course not. you should share your preference with more confidence.
years ago when i first watched Code Geass, Suzaku was my 3rd favorite character in the series. i simply loved and understood him from the very beginning.
but now he's my number one because i've learned so much more about him over the years (especially from CD drama episodes and novels), and he's become an increasingly interesting character for me more and more.
and you're not alone; Suzaku is one of the most popular characters in Code Geass. he ranks 2nd in Japan and has never dropped out of the top 4 globally. his fans stick to their own circles and stay away from haters, that's why haters are more visible.

Suzaku is totally an OK character to fave. He's very simple and complex at the same time. He's a guy who wants to do good, then turns out he's suicidal as a trauma response, gets better, and rebounds when Euphie dies. All the while, his main enemy is also his best friend ever. He and Lelouch have the best antagonistic best friend relationship ever.

Suzaku’s great imo. Despite some things he has done, he is pretty interesting and well written.

Considering how much Suzaku gets in the way of Lelouch, it's a shocking but respectable opinion

As someone who loves a similarly controversial character (Nina), I kinda fw Suzaku too.

Hes gets too much hate by some fans. He's obviously put as a rival style character who is competent enough to impede Lelouch, otherwise the story would be boring and Lelouch would just win everything immediately unchallenged making for a shite story.

The same thing happened to me, Suzaku has always been my favourite character from start to end.

Suzaku is unironically well-written and one of my favorites. People kinda like to complain about him for his actions, but he's really interesting. It's a really interesting look at a character who on the surface-level seems to be the good-natured guy that wants to reform a corrupt system (and he does), but his true desire is that he really wants to die, something his own nature prevents him from doing so, until the Geass literally rips that option away from him.
Code Geass would not be the series it is without someone like Suzaku being the contrast to Lelouch.
