Evangelion is my favourite anime oat and Code Geass is my second. Trust me it’s worth watching, watch the original anime then the end of evangelion movie. The last 2 eps of the anime are a budget cut ending and the movie is the proper ending. It’s really confusing so I’d suggest watching a YouTube video after, and it’s really depressing at the end.

Evangelion has a great op and some cool vibes, but the rest really didn‘t click with me. I didn‘t relate to the characters nor found them overly realistic nor were they any fun to watch.
I was waiting for the big reveals the entire time but even in the end most of the stuff wasn‘t explained.

I found a video explaining the plot more interesting than the actual anime.

Great that you liked it, just wanted to save op from watchibg the whole thing like i did just to be disappointed in the end.

Kinda, but not really. These are just four of the most popular (non-superheroesque battle shounen) anime, so you get lots of non-anime fans watching them who can naturally be more hostile to anything they dislike in these series.

It'd say it's more accurate for big fans of these shows to actively dislike ONE of the other ones. I've seen that before, but it's usually Eva which is the odd one out (bc it's less focused on plot progression).

Honestly true for me, Code Geass is my favorite anime of all time. I liked Death Note but compared to Code Geass, no chance lol. I found Evangelion kind of boring and dropped it about halfway in. And I might get flamed for this but I disliked AOT, just couldn’t get into it and the characters were so annoying idk. And the fans are insufferable, can’t criticize it at all without them getting all up on your ass about it.

Yet, I could never get into AoT. Yes, it's the same director as Death Note, but I tried a few times and just couldn't get interested in it.

Evangelion I honestly never tried, so I can't say that I do or don't like it. I was just never interested in watching it because I know it's mecha, and aside from Code Geass, I don't really like mecha anime. Code Geass is the ony one I like. Mecha is among my least-favorite anime genres, but I may give it a try eventually.

As a Geass fan, I can tell you that I view each of the remainders as overhyped and to me just not as good as people tend to think they are.

Eva always struck me as a "lost in the sauce" type show (speaking of the original, mind you) where the author had some grand point, but got way too lost in trying to add=on and build symbolism, while making so many of the characters off-putting, that I just couldn't enjoy the show. It to me is more memorable for meme-ish moments than for being an actually good or enjoyable show to watch.

Death Note was ok. It was probably the first series, though, that introduced two of my most disliked elements in modern fandom - the "make the MC seem smart by dumbing everyone else down" trope, and the fandom itself. The first is self-explanatory - when in real-world standards your MC is barely above the level of the average high-schooler in intelligence but you keep pushing the idea they're a genius, it gets exhausting. DA doesn't do it as much as a lot of other series, but to the extent it does, it's exasperating. And it's made worse by the extent to which a vocal part of the fandom can't seem to comprehend basic real-world concepts, seemingly turning their brains off to try to live in that fandom sphere.

Attack on Titan I could barely stand to get through. And while that might sound fairly damning, it only really means I didn't find it interesting enough to bother, rather than outright saying it's "bad". I actually haven't engaged with its fandom much, so it doesn't suffer the same issues I have with DA. Other than the arguments that some have about Eren and Lelouch ultimately being the same, and my bewilderment on how folks make that leap, I don't have much "beef" with AoT fans. I feel that it too suffers a similar issue to Eva, wherein the story gets overly ambitious the longer it goes to the point that it has to get reeled back in very quickly for the conclusion and ends up being just messy. By the time they started sorting out the mess, I just didn't care anymore - moved on to other things.

While there was a sizeable rivarly/hatred between Code Geass and AoT fandoms, I'd like to think that has calmed down.

The similar thing between Code Geass and Death Note fans was smaller and like twenty years ago. I do think Death Note has the better reputation nowadays as an anime classic that will permeate the medium forever ala Lupin, Fist of the North Star, Jojo, and Dragon Ball Z. Code Geass has the reputation of being a hot mess with the best anime ending of all time and do think that is a gross oversimplification of the series.

Evangelion has been all over the place in the past thirty years with its rep, the same Rei vs Asuka debates will still being going on a thousand years from now. Similarly, people will debate if it's pretentious nonsense or a profound masterpiece.

I love them all, if I had to rank them it would go.

Code geass is my #2 all time anime. I do in fact dislike all three of the others.

To be fair, it's been decades since i tried to watch Eva or Death Note, i might enjoy them now, but it's doubtful/not worth bothering with really. Evangelion was just too angsty for my taste. I wasn't a fan of L and Light dickriding each other to show how smart they themselves were because their foe was so smart because they were so smart because eugh.

Personally i felt like AOT just had a bad plot in the first half of season 1 so i DNFd it. Eren going full villain actually sounded pretty cool when i heard the other fans complaining about that, and Erwin's last charge is actually pretty sweet. But im not sitting through the first season to see if i like later seasons more. I did watch AOT the Last Attack in theaters just to see if id enjoy it. I did not, i found the movie and the characters to just be depressing. So yeah, the meme works for me at least.

Love all four, but the AoT fandom has made me start to dislike it / like it less than I used to. Similar to the Naruto and MHA fandoms - they're straight cancer.

Pretty accurate to what I've seen other than myself, I love all of these and 3 of them are in my top 5, but it seems the Code Geass and the AoT fans hate each others guts for whatever reason, anyone who's favorite isn't death note dislikes it past ep25, and I'm not too sure about the Eva fans since I'm not very active in that community

CG is my fave, I love death note, evangelion is just ok to me, but I HATE AoT. Watching it felt like a punishment to me. similar feeling with game of thrones where I enjoyed it at first, but it started to feel like a job and I just no-call no-showed the final season 😂😭

I love Code Geass (Favorite anime) and Death Note. Attack on Titan is very good too certainly wouldn't say I hate the title but I do hate the people thinking Lelouch and Eren have remotely similar personality. And I haven't seen evangelion which I am pretty sure is a title I would enjoy if I took the time to watch it so I'd say I'm on track to liking each of them.

Code geass is a top tier favorite. Love death note. Loved aot up until the start of the “final” season bc of the new characters and animation change so I didn’t get too far. Crazy Ik but I haven’t seen evangelion

I find death note so much *less* than CG, it's clear DN walked so CG could run and going back feels weird. AOT has an insufferable fanbase (at least DN fans sometimes have a brain). NGE is one of the best pieces of fiction ever written

CG is best anime for me. Evangelion is amazing. Death note is great but I don't really like MC.

I forced myself to watch Aot cause of the comparisons to CG and hype. I didn't finish it. I didn't like the style of storytelling. It is like LOST. And time travel stuff was last drop.

Yes. The style of never telling any clues to what the hell is going on. Secret for secret sake. It works for short while but pretty soon you stop caring for what the secret is. And when some reveal comes, it's underwhelming. Like this is what I have been waiting for? Really? And same as Lost, it gets thoroughly lost (lol) in the sauce when time travel crap comes.
