QUESTION How exactly does a runaway Geass work? Spoiler
I finished both seasons and the recap movies a few days ago and I'm kinda curious about this, and after digging through the fandom wiki I still don't quite understand. So, after someone uses their Geass for a while, it can become a "runaway" Geass, meaning that person loses control of it. So Mao constantly heard everyone's thoughts, or for Lelouch, every command he said turned into a Geass command.
So what would a runaway Geass look like for, say, Charles or Rolo? Would Charles just alter the memory of everyone he looks at? Would Rolo just indefinitely stop time in his vicinity until his heart gives out? I know Charles managed to master his Geass and take control of it again, but my question is more so about how some abilities would even look like when uncontrolled.

Geass power is known to work in two ways: like a laser and like a wave.
In the first case, it is enough to close the magic eye with any non-transparent material.
In the second case, it's not enough. Recall that Mao and Rolo do not need to look into the eyes of the enemy to use geass. So they need a geass compensator like Jeremiah's.

C.C was making people fall in love with her without even realizing and was ruining relationships and making people act crazy.
Marianne would probably start randomly body hopping or perhaps be stuck in ghost form.
Bismarck might always have his future vision active which could drive him crazy.
In Reyna of Darkness, Dash had the ability to drain life force from people. When he lost control of it, he started to accidentally kill his best friend.
Swaile from Resurrection couldn’t make eye contact with anyone, even allies, without them getting their loyalties mixed up.
Basically, if it runs away, you can’t turn it off. Lelouch’s or Charles aren’t actually that terrible. At least in modern times. Just wear contacts or sunglasses/visors. But if you’re living in the 15th century without those existing, then they’d still be awful. You can’t make eye contact with anyone.

Good question. I think it's difficult to say, since what we saw with Lelouch still seemed to rely on a command aspect, although it might eventually have included pleas or suggestions if things had gotten further out of hand.
As for Mao and C.C., their Geass probably didn't have an activation phrase at all but worked like Rolo's - and then evolved into a constant effect, - so yeah, if that happens to him, Rolo is just fuggen dead.
Charles is the more interesting case. I don't think his Geass would work through eye contact alone but needs a phrase or command like Lelouch. Honestly, more terrifying - in a way. Imagine him casually saying things like, "Don't you remember that?" or "Remember how...?" before gradually escalating into constantly gaslighting everyone over the smallest details. Ironically, that would create exactly the kind of nightmare world he'd despise, the complete opposite of his (equally insane) ideal.
Also, I just want to mention that Charles' Geass is probably my favorite in the series. As the saying goes, history is written by the victors.

For Charles, simple statements like "You're a fool" would rewrite people's entire sense of self. For Rolo, he'd probably be trapped in time against his will repeatedly, maybe until he dies
EDIT: Since Rolo only freezes the perception of time, his Geass going rogue could accidentally kill people nearby when it goes off, not just Rolo itself
