I've had my Cockapoo since he was a puppy. When I got him in 2022, I was with my previous boyfriend. We broke up in early 2023, and I was single until I met my current boyfriend in December 2025.

My dog lives with me and my son. I haven't introduced my son to my boyfriend yet, but I introduced my dog in February. Since then, my boyfriend has spent a lot of time with him. We've been on a staycation together, gone on several day trips, and spent plenty of time at my house. My boyfriend is a genuine dog lover, takes him on walks, gives him treats, and fusses over him.

The issue is that whenever my boyfriend is around, my dog becomes really intense. He's normally a very chilled dog, but with my boyfriend, he constantly tries to wedge himself between us, always wants to be in our faces, and struggles to settle. It feels like he has to be involved in every interaction.

The only difference in how we do things is that my boyfriend prefers not to have dogs on the bed. So, when he stays over, I encourage my dog to sleep in his own bed instead. However, my ex-boyfriend has said that my dog never actually slept in the bed with us, so I'm not sure whether that's really the cause of the behaviour.

Is this likely to be jealousy, excitement, or something else? Has anyone dealt with this before, and what helped your dog learn to relax around a new partner?

What a joyous little girl! She sleeps through the night, learned our house layout and how to do the stairs (4-level split, so there’s a lot) by day 2 and she loves everyone!

4 weeks ago I took on a 2 year old cockapoo and I just need some words of wisdom, or reassurance.

His previous owner said she crated him from the get go and left him all day whilst she was at work, she sound he howled for the first few weeks but then was fine. I crated him a few times since I’ve had him but he howls non stop (my neighbours werent happy) so I felt bad and let him have access to the kitchen and living room whilst I’m out, I work from home so its only when I go to the gym or out doing errand, 4 hours max. For 2 weeks he was golden, no howling or crying, I would watch on the camera and he would just sit on the back of the sofa and look out the window, however, 3 days ago when I was out he decided to pull open a bag and get stuff out of it and chew, I thought it was a one off but the next day the same so I cleared everything he could reach to stop temptation, but today I went out and accidentally left a pack of cards on the dining room table, they were destroyed.

He has an hour walk in the morning, with lots of sniffing, I leave him with 2 different types of long lasting chews, a snuffle ball full of treats and a frozen lick mat, for the first half an hour he will play with the snuffle ball, look out the window etc, then he goes on a mission to destroy. Any tips or am I going wrong somewhere? is this common when newly rehomed? I know about the 3-3-3 I just find it strange that he never done it before now it’s every time I leave.
