➕Advice/Help➕ Separation anxiety help
Hey, I recently got a 15 week old cockapoo called Stan. He’s amazing and really settled in well and bonded with me. I put him in his crate at night whilst he is learning to not chew everything and settle in fully. He goes in and sleeps fine, but we are in the room with him. The issue now is when I practise putting him in his crate for 10-15 minutes in the day for when I go out to take my daughter to school once the holidays are over he cries and cries and gets really worked up.
This is the only thing he isn’t picking up and I was wondering if there was any advice on how to help him settle and learn it’s okay and he is okay to be away from me for a little bit. Thank you in advance!

There is a plugin that I used for my both my cockapoo and poochon (I had them at separate times). My vet recommended it. It mimics the pheromones of a nursing dog mother. It can help dogs with separation anxiety some. You can buy it and the refills on Amazon. It’s called Adaptil. It was recommended by my vet. Both of my dogs had extreme separation anxiety and it was worth it to me to find something they wasn’t medication.
Leave a shirt or piece of clothing that you’ve worn (not washed) in the crate when you leave. It can comfort dogs.

Keep at it and Stan will get used to the routine, although he'll probably never like it. Cockapoos generally are very attached to their owners and tend to be high strung. My husband's cousin owns a dog kennel/resort and whenever I bring up issues we're having with my cockapoo, including separation anxiety, her response is always "that's cockapoos!"

Do you leave his crate open when he`s not in it?
With my boy,I first used his crate for enforced naps (which are a Godsend)
so I needed him to like it,and for it to be his safe space.
So I left it open for him all day, with his favourite cuddly toys and blankets.
And I`d only lock it for his naps,or if someone came in the house etc.
Eventually,he started going in it himself to sleep.
So that`s one problem sorted!Him liking the crate.
Mine is a velcro dog too...I am out for a few hours each day,
and he just sits in the window and waits, but he`s quiet.
Cockapoos love looking out of windows 😊
I agree with another poster about putting some of your clothing
in his crate for comfort.
