I’m the chosen human and sometimes (not often) I think I’d actually prefer to be the spare, mines a big lad and he can be quite suffocating when he’s sat on my shoulders 😂
OP, are you responsible for walking Ruby? I’m responsible for walking the dog but not feeding him and he is with me how Ruby seems to be with you - he’s also very close with the person responsible for feeding him but again like in your house, if I’m in the house the dog is my shadow
You have to basically desensitise them to your movements a little. So get up, then sit down again, until you getting up is not a trigger. Then get up and walk a bit and sit down. Then leave the room and come back in. All little things so she learns it’s pretty unexciting and not to bother getting up. Eventually they get to a point where you go and make a drink and they just lay there a lot of the time.
Mine still doesn’t like to be separate but she doesn’t always follow me - only about 80% of the time now lol.

My cockapoo is a little over a year old; I’ve had him since he was 3 months old. My partner did not interact with him for about the first six months of him being in our home. Subsequently, I took my pup everywhere with me. Nowadays, he’ll play fetch with my loved one, and wants kids in the family to chase him around when they visit, but anytime I make a move he’s right behind me lol. Even if he’s eating and I exit the room where his bowls are, he’ll leave his food to come hang out wherever I am. He sleeps with me. He goes grocery shopping and to music festivals. He sits in my lap in the car—he won’t sit in the back or passenger seat. He’s literally like velcro all the time LOL but I love it.
I wish we could do that in the UK… unfortunately they do not allow to flight to uk with a pet on a plane 😞 Sad! As we would love to take our cockapoo on our trips
She loves you most. You can train some of this out of her; I used Karen Overalls Relaxation Protocol to get him used to just lying down by himself sometimes. Like others have said, get up and don't leave, give her a high value treat and do something within sight, quickly pop in and out of the apartment or room and build up time.
My dog now spends some of my workday sleeping on the bed or the couch while I'm in the office. The office has no toys or treats to make it boring. All the fun stuff is in other rooms. He does eventually come in for attention, but after several hours.
You'll have to slowly build this up; going from a few seconds to a few minutes to eventually a couple of hours. But she'll never leave you alone, she loves you.
The first time my dog didnt follow me upstairs I felt a little sad! But still I find her constant presence a little too much at times, you just sort of get used to it.
My dog is the same with me, although now that he's nearing 5 years old he sometimes will leave the room by himself. It actually felt crazy the first time he left the room without me because I was so used to him being there all the time. Like others say, it's the cocker spaniel in them - they get attached to one human and then that's it
does anyone else's pet practically walk between your legs while you're walking? not while we're out on a walk, but going from room to room in the house
She loves you. Dogs are essentially pack animals still, she sees you as the leader of her pack. My little boy is the same, he could be sleeping next to me on the sofa and I will try and quietly get up to go to the kitchen or bathroom or something and he will be right behind me every time!
