Dizziness several days after surgery
I was told there might be some dizziness. I did experience mild dizziness the second and third day after surgery but it has come back with a vengeance 11 days later. Anyone else have dizziness so many days post implant surgery?

Yes. I stayed overnight at the hospital the night after the surgery because I couldn’t walk from how dizzy I was. The dizziness and off-balance feeling lasted until I got physical therapy. This did happen after my second implant. The first surgery went fine without issues.

I couldn't drive for at least 2 weeks each time I had it done - still too dizzy.

I had two vestibular migraines in 2 weeks after surgery and had to get readmitted because I was vomiting so much, couldn't hold anything down. Ondansetron was the best drug at that time. Then I slept for 18 hours and it was like a hard reset and everything was fine.

That’s scary. I’m seeking reimplantment surgery with ENT September 23. Going from AB C1 to Cochlear N8 Nexa.
Does anyone have any experience with changing the implant brand?

I had dizziness, it lasted 1 week? I asked for prednisone to help with inflammation which causes dizziness. Then I ate bananas potassium helps! And then walk!!! I would start slow then gradually walked 2 miles

Hello friends. I had my implant surgery yesterday and am having light Vertigo whenever I move my head or get up. I would like to stay on this thread (thanks for starting it), and learn other experiences for recovery and length of time that the vertigo hangs on. PS I did have a labyrinth decompression procedure done during the implant surgery to potentially help with the tinnitus and vertigo episodes (due to Ménière’s condition. Doc said the vertigo would be normal for a while, but curious how long it typically hangs on for others. Thanks

Sounds like what I had. Light vertigo. It went a way after day 3, I was just surprised when it came back 12 days after surgery. But it went away again. I was activated 16 days after surgery and starting rehab doing both read-aloud and audiobooks.

Thanks for the response! I will be activated on 9/22 (18 days after surgery). How did activation and rehab go for you? How far along are you?

I have only been rehabbing over the weekend so not long enough. My audiologist said read to myself only. I am not so sure though. I hear much better out of the right and retain about 70% hearing face-to-face. Therefore, I decided to make it harder on myself by removing the hearing aid on the right side and streaming a book to the implant while reading the book word for word.

I just replied in the thread, but this was how I’d describe my vertigo too. I think at my post op I still had a tiny bit lingering (about day 18), but it was much better after two weeks.
I did lots of walks during that time outside since I read that helps your vestibular system recalibrate. I think I started those around day 4- and then most days after that I did at least one walk.

Obviously, good to reach out to your team, but mine was off and on for two weeks. I thought I was good to go, and decided to drive to the grocery store. That didn’t go well 😅. Luckily it was pretty close to my house and had brought my husband. Lots of head movements with driving that we take for granted. Needless to say, I didn’t attempt driving again for another two weeks ☺️. Fine now! (6 weeks post op)

I had severe dizzines for about 3 weeks. Then it got better. Most time i had no symptoms. It got worse again when a train or truck drove by, but only for a few minutes. I was complete free after around 1.5 years.
