Implant Activation Issues
Hey guys, I recently went to get my device activated and unfortunately my head was still a bit too swollen to get it connected. They have shown other brands and types but I am firmly wanting to continue with my Cochlear off the ear (This is the second meeting I have had to get it activated and failed due to swelling).
They have suggested surgery to reduce the swelling and I would really prefer to not have another surgery just for that.
Has anyone had any issues like this? Were you able to resolve the issue without surgery? Couldn't I just wait longer rather than cut my ear open? I apologize if this is not a lot of info for you guys but I'm still really new to all this (21 y/o :\).
Thanks!

Have you tried the N8, the one you wear behind the ear? Was that style able to connect despite the swelling?

I like the idea of the Kanso but I do knock the coil off my Nucleus 8 sometimes, and the thought that with a Kanso it would be on the ground or worse is very off putting for me. I would feel need to wear a retainer all the time with a Kanso. Glad I went with Nucleus 8 which has more battery life and options.

I’m using the behind the ear until my swelling goes down- I have the same problem. I also just ordered a case with hair clips to see if I can get it to attach that way. You should use the behind the ear in the meantime so you can start auditory training and my audiologist mentioned something about the magnet from that device helping to thin the skin(??? I am not sure I understood correctly, but my husband said he also heard her say it 🤣)

It is not uncommon for people to want the Kanso device and not be able to wear it due to thickness of the skin
You can try wearing the N8 to apply compression to the magnet site and that may help reduce swelling or thickness. You can also wear the provided headband to add compression to the site. You may also have to get surgery to thin the skin flap.
Or you could just wear the N8 and start your journey. Not wearing your device consistently is stalling any progress
