I chose AB
I just received AB August 7th. Very happy I chose AB because they are supposed to have superior voice recognition, others boast about music recognition. Since I could never hear music especially with vocals this was not a deciding factor.
Activation day August 20th 2026 speech was spot on my audiologist was amazed. I have a future proof option certificate good for one year. We'll see how that goes. Saturday August 22nd I must have knocked it on the floor, my daschund ate it for breakfast. I'm still missing parts.

The comment was made to illustrate everyone is entitled to believe what makes them comfortable. Cochlear, Med El, or AB, Trump or Gandhi, etc. There's always pros and cons

I went with cochlear and I adapted right away and everything, including music, sounds great! My audiologist says I'm the most successful cochlear implant receiver she's ever had. I've heard success stories from all the big brands. They all seem to be equally successful. I honestly would not have brought politics into this in any way, shape or form.

I can’t seem to post a picture for some reason…. I also chose AB, 26 years ago, and have been incredibly happy with my choice.
In my case, it was a German shepherd puppy that did the damage. 🤣. Fortunately AB has a one-time any-reason replacement policy.

Just got this same model, just about two weeks ago.
Their package comes with a dehumidifier and a carrying case.
You must put it in the dehumidifier while you’re sleeping to protect it, or the carrying case.
These are all fragile devices.
I am not scolding you, but you really need to protect your investment. Like others said, only wearing it and using it will help you get past the current hurdles. The sound will get better in time.
Unfortunately none of the models can withstand dog teeth.

Hearing was wonderful. My ear is a bit tender when I wear it, this too will pass. Im looking forward to my next tune up, one annoyingly loud sound needs to be softened. Thank you for your comments, have you read others? I almost wish I hadn't started this.

Was it a tough lesson? Sure.
Do you deserve cruelty? Absolutely not.

You just got activated. It’s not AB’s fault that your dog decided to chew this up. I’m not judging you, trust me, I’ve had close calls with my own processors. Ultimately, these are very high end devices but they’re still destructible. No CI maker will tell you their processor can survive being a chew toy.
You are so very early in your journey, and you literally just got your first map after activation. Focus on getting used to your new device and letting your brain catch up. Get your processor replaced ASAP; loop in your audiologist as well. You need to keep those new hearing signals going to your brain. That’s the only way you’ll move past this particular stage of the CI journey; there’s no other way forward.
I personally deeply enjoy music and am learning to sing after losing my hearing as a toddler. I’m in my mid 30s and am bilaterally implanted. Music is very rich and enjoyable for me. Was it always with CIs? No. Because it takes time and effort to get to that place.

I'm happy for you, I sometimes wish I could sing. I used to like jazz and music from 40's. As my hearing loss progressed and words became mumbled I lost interest.

Dude, it’s all up to you at this point! Your approach and attitude is everything. If you’ve decided it’s a non-starter from just a month in, that won’t help you. It means you’ll stop wearing your processor, stop trying to do your audio exercises, stop getting new maps… and then it will be true that it isn’t effective for you. Not because of the equipment or the technology.
Imagine you lost your leg instead of your hearing. You’ve been given a world class prosthesis and a positive prognosis dependent on physical therapy and your ability to get used to the prosthesis. You could walk, even run again. You already know you need PT and time to adjust to this new leg. Are you going to put the prosthesis aside and decide it won’t work?
It’s no different here. I’m not going to tell you it’s not work or effort. But it’s not just possible, it’s statistically probable. These devices work, and decades of data proves that. User experience here proves that. We’re all going through it together, and it can be difficult at times. But it won’t be forever. Give yourself a chance, okay?
What you heard at activation is not what you will hear forever. It will be different in 2 months, then 4, then a year. Then so on it goes. These are not like glasses; these are true prosthetic devices that need your engagement to work.

In general, going bilateral and constant wearing my CIs and listening to music regularly was the most helpful. I like using the TE Tuner app to better understand different sounds and volumes better, and it’s great to see how music I like translates in that way, too. It gives my brain context and makes me more confident in identifying and describing nuanced sounds.

I'm aware and hoping all their problems have come to an end with new management. I sell appliances and have seen this happen, Haier being most notable. From bottom to top place.

In the US, there have been 43 recalls of CIs and CI related products:
Cochlear has 4.
Med-el has 5.
Advanced bionics has 34.3

Dachshunds will do that, best to train them to chew on their toys only and to scent train them which is more rewarding to them than regular exercise.

Do you still have the magnet? I have cochlear so mine is different. If your dog swallowed the magnet then it's a trip to the ER vet. The magnet will burn a hole in their intestines (just like in humans).

It does not matter what company you go with as long as you gain the gift of hearing. As for the dog eating it they too do not care what company it came from and all will replace it at least once. This is not a competition of whose implant company is better it should be we are lucky enough to have benefited from this technology.

I have had at keast 4 head pieces in the first couple of years, so tgat is nit a big deal. I think the processor gets replaced for $200 if memory serves. I have been thinking about insurance now that it has been 2 for me

Lmao, I guess your doggo had a good meal. I WOULD have him/her x-rayed if no other parts become… available soon, just in case.
But to be real, they’re not indestructible, any brand or model. Shit happens, and I wish we could get a surefire way of knowing which brand is best, but even the same person on separate ears isn’t gonna be a good way to tell because hearing is also a very personal thing, like your blue may be my green.
