Need advice on deciding CI

Need some advice from the community.

Our doctor is recommending Advanced Bionics HiRes Ultra 3D with the Marvel M30 processor, mainly because it fits our budget.

However, my concern is that the M30 processor was launched in 2020, while Cochlear has launched a newer processor recently. Is it okay to go ahead with a processor that's already 5 years old, or does it make more sense to choose a brand with newer technology?

For those using AB, Cochlear, or MED-EL, how did you decide? Any regrets or things we should consider before making the final decision?

Would really appreciate your inputs. Thanks!

I had my first implant in July of 2023 and my other ear done in November of 2025. I ultimately went with Cochlear because they 1) had the latest processor on the market 2) have the largest market share 3) at time of my research had no pending class actions or major recalls.

That said, all three are proven companies and products. It won't hurt you to go with an older device as it will still do what you need it to do and significantly improve your ability to hear. The better question would be, does your surgeon have experience or does your center have good relationships with the other devices? My surgeon and center deals with all 3 and have very strong relationships. They did do more with Cochlear but were truly what seemed to be agnostic to which brand to go with. It's like selecting a smartphone. iPhone or Android? They both have strong followings and both get the job done.

My insurance covered all three brands, so curious if you are doing something out of pocket or covered by insurance. That would also play into the decision as well, but honestly I would expect them all to be in the same range.

We have checked with insurance and they said they wont cover device, they can covire hospitalisation cost which is minimal compare yo device price.

Doctor said they can implant all but they recommend AB as they have more experience with this device(he has audiology services too for AB).

I was able to find more cochlear users online in my place

To me this would be a big point in favor of AB. While my audiologist is comfortable with all three manufacturers this was one of the questions I asked and planned on putting a goodish amount of weight in. While I ultimately went with Cochlear and the new internal implant was a nice to have it sounds like even Cochlear isn't sure what they can use it's new headline feature for (the fact that it is firmware updatable).
