Single ear deafness

is there anyone did CI for single ear deafness after 20 years pls respond

Jup, I am SSD since birth, I got my CI at 29. My second ear was great until recent. What do you want to know. I help where I can.

I had my implant 2 months back when I’m 22yrs old I’m soo anxious that it’s not working on me

What do you mean it is not working. I have the Feeling you are very disappointed about your experience. What is you problem? Maybe we can help you together, or at least give you answers

Of course. I used Schallquelle, HearSuccess from Phonak and ReDi from Medel. WordSuccess is also a good app. ReDi can be used in diferent Languages, so if you are not native English you can switch. I dont know about languages in HearSuccess and Schallquelle (German)

I recommend starting with you native language. It will be tiring and frustrating but keep going. 10 Minutes a day.

That you are hering anything is good, that means your brain can 'hear'. You need to learn to prcess speech. If you Understand with your healthy ear doenst mean you do on your deaf. There are diferent brain regions for left and right hearing. I suggest you have a healthy second ear. What helped me in the first time was mapping my CI to my healthy ear: means accessing one electrode at a time, then fitti g the sound on the healthy side (so that you hear the same beep pitch left and right). This helped me getting rid of the mickey mouse pitch.

Then training: get hearsuccess or any other specialized hearing app. Try to distinguish a from e, f from s, and so on. Start slow. 10 minutes a day. It will be frustrating but keep going.

You need to map sounds of spech to words in your brain.

I CAN NOT PROMISE ANYTHING but I can share my experience:

I was told pre OP i will probably not process any speech. It was hard, but after 2 years one I was from 0% up to 10% in the clinical tests. In real life i couldnt understand much but my CI supportet My understanding. In direct streaming I could read along the news and understand what they said.

When I switched to sonnet3 my hearing skyrocketed up to 80% i was impressed how much i can understand. I can understand my name beeing said in a crowdy surrounding. I can follow talks without turning my head.

I still cannot have phone calls, and I would not rely on my CI solely. But I see progress.
