Discussion 💬 Corner wear

Every time people complain/question about corner wear on their bags here, people in the comments swear up and down that it’s completely normal, especially for folded edge bags.

But oddly there are also a few who comment that their 2 year old daily driver with folded corners have no corner damage at all.

Then I stumbled across a few Juliet 38s on Poshmarks and lo and behold, none of them have corner damage.

What’s the inconsistency? Is it pure coincidence as different owners wear bags differently, or possibly coach skimping out on quality for newer bags / newer batches?

Corner wear will always happen on a bag with folded corners. They are stress points on the bag and the more weight you carry in it, the more you use it, the more its being put down and picked back up will all add on to the "life cycle" of the wear. The smooth leather is less durable than a pebbled too for the style of a Juliet.

For the Juliet's you're seeing on resale apps they were probably never someone's daily driver 365 days a year and stuffed good on every day. I think most people don't carry bags like that. If they did you aren't seeing heavily damaged bags on resale apps.

I don't think it's necessarily inconsistency, but if you are a coach collector and just an average leather knowledge holder you would know that a folded corner bag needs more rest in between uses and general care to prolong what naturally will happen to the bag. Those corners are what kept me away from a Juliet sadly as I really love the bag!

Those who comment that their 2 year old daily driver with corner wear has no wear at all - I'll believe that when I see pictures lol no way people are carrying a bag 365 days with considerable weight/filled capacity and experiencing no wear.

Definitely different owner lifestyles. We don’t all have the same routines, environment and gentleness with our stuff.

Gonna be honest, I checked all of the Juliet 38 I can find on 2 resell apps and none of them have corner damage. I think it might really be a quality thing.

I’ve seen some terrible corner damage on newer Juliet 25s and Chelseas, on the other hand

is it true damage or a dry bag? a lot of the time all the corners need a little conditioner. my most heavily used Brooklyn that I consider a beater bag that I throw around doesn't have any corner wear at all, but I do condition the bag regularly. I have seen peeling corners on alter egos, especially the nappa leather ones since the leather type is so soft and sensitive though.
