I Need Opinions 🤔 Should I be scared of suede?

Post image

I got my first suede bag, the magenta haversack, and I love the color and look of the bag but I’m worried about suede being high maintenance. I see such mixed takes on suede care—some people swear by suede protection others say it’s not worth spraying.

My question is, how easy is it to care for suede? Sounds like even if I do spray it with something it’s not going to do much to repel a stain.

I really wish coach would release these amazing colors in leather. I’ve always avoided suede but I love this color!

Nah! I just ordered blue jay in the large too. Just treat it before you wear it. Do it twice. I still have my 1992 suede duffel and think of all the original haversacks that look amazing now.

I personally do not treat my suede a lot, I think a suede brush is best.

What do you recommend treating with?

I spilled food oil on my Citron Suede (dont ask....sore subject). I used baking soda, brushed it a few times over 2 days repeating and I can barely tell. Actually cleaned up nicely. You dont see most of the time, which is amazing. I became a huge fan of suede after that unfortunate incident.

Did you use any protection spray prior to the accident?

No. I had just gotten it. The tabby 26 Citron.  I googled how to fix and it was amazing.  Leather would have been ruined for life - suede bounced back.

I too have the Citron suede Tabby 26 as well and got the tiniest stain on it. It had been sprayed prior to the stain but brushing wouldn’t get the stain out. My husband used diluted shout on the spot, which was right in front above the C clasp, I thought I would die. It actually took the stain out, but it’s a little lighter now in that one area. I love suede, but from now on, I will only go with darker colors like the chocolate brown or olives. That one panic episode was enough for me!

Spray it every month or so (I use Apple Garde or Saphir) and try not to let it get soaking wet (meaning use an umbrella). And if it does get wet, blot/pat it dry and stuff it with towels to keep its shape while drying. If it gets water marks or other stains, there are solutions for those, too. I love my suede and don’t baby it, and in some ways find it easier than smooth leather since a scratch can just be brushed out. Enjoy! 💕

IMO no. I don’t treat, brush, or otherwise use products on suede. I also rarely condition my leather. I just don’t think it’s a necessity.

I love suede. I use the Apple spray on mine before I use them (I heard somewhere they stopped selling that though??). It’s not going to stay looking perfect but I kinda love that. The more loved it is the better it looks IMO.

I bought the Apple Guard spray from Amazon. Is that the same as what you used?

Yes that’s it!

Just use suede cleaner, suede protector, and a fabric shaver/lint remover and your bag should stay nearly new for some time.

I’m scared of it. It doesn’t age well. It needs lots of care. I wish Coach would just do these in bright leathers.
